Now that the reno’s are done, I finally see what the fuss is about. Great view and reliable food. I am probably not that interested in ’Prawn Fest’ though.
Prawn Fest July 2010 should read Prawn Famine. An order of Tiger Prawns with Rice resulted in just 5 small prawns, rice, a sauce and coriander. - certainly not a feast. The small serving was justified by the waiter as a discounted serve as I had ordered the Prawn Fest special menu for $34.90 - Caesar Salad ( no anchovies to be found)as well as the Prawn dish. Certainly not good value.
I'm surprised people still go there. Get the feeling they are trading on a famous name rather than putting any effort in. The frozen bugs I received one night with soggy bread crumbs on top would suggest preprepared, heat and serve meals. Not to mention the soulless char grilled fish with stir fried vegetables. Add the disinterested service, overpriced dishes, ordinary wine list and noisy dining room it begs the question - why?
We at at Mures Upper Deck last night and thought it was excellent! The service was very attentive (glasses always topped up, plates cleared promptly) and friendly, the food was delicious and the wine list was pleasantly local-focused. We are over in Tas for a holiday from Melbourne, and always look for restaurants serving local produce, local wines and with pleasant ambience (it felt like a 'special occasion' family restaurant). Mures Upper Deck ticked all the boxes, and we'll be recommending it.
