For some reason, in this pub restaurant, I was drawn to the butter chicken. At the time, I thought it was silly choice, given that Magic Curries is 20m down the street. The curry was actually pretty good and the fragrant rice was extremely fragrant. Perhaps that’s what sold me. Papadams were out of a box but who cares. The rest of the meals were okay too, and no complaints. Sticky date is too big for one person.
Maybe a bit expensive overall, but good service and reasonable wine list.

Just found this excellent blog, been in Tassie for 3 weeks and leaving today!
We ate at Prince of Wales Hotel in Battery Point last week and were terribly disappointed.
Grilled chicken caesar salad consisted of inedible cold "rubber" chicken and limp lettuce. My partner's fish curry was a dry concoction of overcooked vegetables and a lump of pallid fish plonked on top of a spoonful of rice.
Over priced and highly over-rated!

Hi Anon 7.24. Disappointing that you had such a crap experience at POW. Obviously my review was done in 2007, and things have well and truly changed since then. Sorry that you only found this blog on your last day in Tassie, but feel free to contribute any time to our often colourful discussions here!
