As time has marched inexorably on and I have found myself getting older (geez - surprise, surprise), I have found it productive, at about this time of the year, to make a list of things I would realistically like to be able to have achieved or done by this time next year.
I suppose that is where the original New Years Resolutions came from. Who knows?
Anyway, mine are obviously peculiar to ME.
It really works for me - I take great delight in ticking off things on my list as they slowly get done. I don't stick to the one year time frame either. If it takes 3 or 4 years to get round to it, that's fine.
The main requirement/resolution for this year is one I have failed to achieve - getting a new job with similar pay. If I'm serious about this, I'm going to have to attack this from a totally new direction in 2007.
Everything else on my last years list has been done - getting the electrician in to repair broken powerpoints, buying & connecting a set-top box etc.
I know it sounds boring but it DOES give me a warm fuzzy feeling of accomplishment and pride in myself to realise that I have actually achieved things for ME, rather than people around me, like my employer, my friends and family etc.
So I will now start my 2007 list, sticky-tape it to the back of the bedroom door, and review it this time next year to see where I stand in regard to personal credibility!
Happy New Year to Me!

You go Rita, make 2007 your year. Mark a timeline as to the cutoff point when you'd want to be in your new job. All this pondering has made me evaluate my own vocation :)
