Paesano

Dinner tonight at Paesano was really good. They have a few noteworthy things in their favour. Firstly, prodded by my dinner companions to tell the waitress when she cleared back the plates, I explained that I felt $18 for an entree sized prawn pasta dish containing only 3 prawns was pretty steep. The dish tasted beautiful, but the lack of prawns disappointed me. I asked if I could have the remaining pasta to take home as I hadn't finished the dish. She obliged, and as a bonus, when she returned with the container of tomorrows lunch, said chef apologised for there only being 3 prawns in it & had added 3 more to my takeaway.

I call that over and above great service. They listened, believed me & acted on it. Secondly, our waitress was friendly and honest. I didn't want to make an issue of the prawns but she kindly but firmly explained that they wouldn't want anyone to feel dissatisfied, so wanted to know if there was a problem, what it was so they could fix it.

BJ had a prawn calzone of which I had a sample - it was gorgeous. Chris had a chicken pasta dish and Lynsey had a chicken pizza and they both said theirs were perfect as well.

We shared a garlic bread which 2 of us hated & 2 of us loved. Go figure!

All in all, for a casual Italian restaurant on a Thursday night in Hobart: good meal, good prices, good parking, good service, good friends, good night.

Rita, I always give extra points to those establishments who offer freshly ground pepper to their patrons as a complimentary service, did Paesono's offer this service?

Oh, I must agree with you Rita; my fave Fri night takeaway is a Paesano chilli prawn fettucine. Delish!! Simple, tasty, and inexpensive.

Methinks you might be taking the proverbial piss about the phallic pepper grinder "service", but yes -they DID provide this!

I like your approach - pretending to only have three prawns and ending up with a whole bonus meal to take away.

Very impressive.
