The name and spelling of the above business has totally turned me off going in there to date. It doesn't in any way do anything for me. Is it meant to be Seafood Domaine? Is it a pun of some kind? Who knows. I've driven past the shop countless times and never for one second been tempted to stop and go in, due to the name of the place.
Well, I finally did - led in there by a friend of the owner/operator Amanda Way. And boy do I need to take back any unkind thoughts I ever had about that place or its name!
A ten minute talk with the lovely Amanda has totally turned me round. She is all things I would love to see everyone in the hospitality industry be - vivacious, friendly, forthcoming, generous, caring, enthusiastic, informed, committed and passionate about her industry.
Her business incorporates a few services. They sell live, fresh and cooked takeaway seafood, 7 days a week. They also have a side business called Lobster Direct whereby they will freight anywhere fresh lobsters caught by husband Kent on his boat. You can't get it much fresher than that.
She told us a few funny stories about the lobster freighting service including one about about a recent customer request for the lobster to be freighted on behalf of loving male to his wife, accompanied by some sexy underwear. I pointed out that the temptation to dress the lobster up in the underwear would have been too great for me! She, tactically, resisted the urge.
The range of fresh seafood and the prices are very much worth the trip to Margate. I promise you excellent service, a friendly reception and top quality seafood from this regional business.
Go on, take the plunge and get your cute little butts down the Channel. Buy your food direct from those producers and small businesses trying so hard to make an honest living. You can get your fruit and vegies, your seafood, your butchery items, your cheeses, your wines in one fell swoop down the Channel Highway.
** Apologies to anyone I've misled - I had written that the business was in Margate when in fact it is in Snug! I have amended this error.

I hope you got a free feed for that write up.
Geez Anon - way harsh! Simple answer: no, I didn't. To be honest, I didn't buy anything at the time, tempted & inspired as I was. I was on my way to the airport to fly to Melbourne so the fresh lobster would have been confiscated by those over-zealous security guards at the airport.
But - I'm willing to compromise my standards - I CAN be bought! If they offered me a free sample, I'd be there!
Sir Grumpy has mentioned this great little shop Seafood DeMayne around the blogs.
Me and lady Fair load up and eat our feed on Snug's white-sand beach, round the corner.
And, as rita said, they are friendly in there.
Then we get our veggies from George's market garden at margate and free-range eggs and home-made cakes, plus other veggies and fruit at howden.
Who needs the big supermarkets?
They don't come close.
Sir Grumpy.

Hi Travis - thank you very much for your response. I apologise for not knowing about where the name of the business came from, and I'm really sorry that the business will be on the market soon, as from all the feedback here on the blogs, everyone who goes down there loved your products.
I recommended your business to an interstate food blogger a few weeks ago when she was fown here in Hobart. She was bowled over by the fabulous service she received from your business, especially when one of the girls working there dropped off a freshly cooked lobster at her hotel later that evening.
That was such a wonderful thing to do - and gave our tourism industry a great name as well!
Best of luck with whatever you do next.
