Bleak Blogging/Mr Nellies Night of Joys

Well - it feels pretty lonely out here in food blogging land in Hobart now. No Food Kitty, no Smurf. HRB and Nellie rarely blogging. Thank god Gobbler's still hard at it. That frisson of excitement with the exchange of ideas, opinions, witticisms and information. Not to mention the abuse and controversy!

I have toyed with the idea of giving it away myself over the last few days, but find I still have things I want to say, so will keep it up.

The party at which I met up with Kitty on Sunday was Mr Nellie's 40th birthday. Mr Nellie is my son-in-law, and also Kitty's brother-in-law.

Mr Nellie had requested for the big celebration, a Greek souvlaki theme with all the accompanying Greek "goodies". Nellie, being the stressed mother of two toddlers, turned the plans over to Rita, who in turn called on one of her closest friends, most coincidentally a chef who does private catering on the side, to look after the food for these 30-odd food connoisseurs.

The result, I think, was stunning! The challenge was there to produce top quality Greek tucker for very picky people. I hope I'm not being insulting there, but they ARE people who know exactly how they want their Greek food, and expect it that way.

My cheffing friend did THE most wonderful job, with so many compliments peppering peoples farewells as they left.

Maybe Kitty might read this and feel she wants to comment on the evening? Anyway, as is the norm in our family, we overcatered to blazes and Nellie had enough food left over to feed three third world villages (or the starving Chinese, as my mother used to say while trying to urge me as a child to eat my yukky veges!).

So - to rate the private restaurant of Chez Nellie on Sunday night:

Food taste 9/10
Food appearance 10/10
Enjoyment factor 10/10

The taste only earned 9/10 because, as I've said in the past, us humans need to strive for perfection.

Well done Nellie, Mr Nellie and Wonderful Chef (who I think might prefer to remain nameless)!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR NELLIE. MAY THERE BE MANY, MANY MORE TO COME.

I'm sure the food was great Rita, but this also backs our assertions in the past that a meal with great company is always memorable.
I remember many a great night out in restaurants with friends and family DESPITE the food!
For example, the Drunken Admiral was VERY disappointing but about 14 of us still had a great night.
