I promised I would report back on my catering function at the Mercure, then got all carried away with the Mummys reminiscing and forgot what I'd sat down to do!
Another symptom of Alzheimers rearing its ugly head!
The lunch was yesterday. As it turned out, the food and service turned out fine on the day, much to my huge surprise, as the preliminaries leading up to it didn't bode well.
The functions person had had a charisma bypass, and my dealings with her, from her end, seemed to verge on direct rudeness.
I made it a priority to be as helpful, friendly and courteous as possible, to ensure that from my perspective, I was not mis-reading her tone of voice or what she was saying to me.
Definitely not a people person this young lady. She probably is extremely efficient at organising functions though - presumably the reason why she's in the job.
But - I won't be dealing with them again, just because I prefer the people I deal with to be personable, and willing to listen and negotiate in an adult, polite and genuine fashion.
We ate Beef in Red Wine, with Mashed Potato on the side; an Asian Chicken and Ramen Noodles Stir Fry; Salad; Dinner Rolls (with choice of marg or butter!!); Cheese and Fruit Platter; plus soft drinks and tea or coffee.
I only had the Beef - which was absolutely gorgeous.
So - for ease of organisation and customer relations, I award the Mercure 2 out of 10.
For the food and general catering on the day - they get 9 out of 10.
Go figure. Depends what your priorities in life are as to your judgement there.

Sounds Like a fair call Rita. The food must have really made up for the lack of personality as I know that you take into account the whole package. :)
