Celebrations are in order...

At long last, Rita is finally able to proudly announce her kitchen as being reasonably finished and able to be used!

It is a symphony in bright colour - red and black, with the added contrast of stainless steel and ivory. And my wonderful new Ikea light track complete with 5 lights shining brilliantly down on all benches and sink areas means I can now wash up at night time! What will they invent next? (Yes - you're right in your thoughts there - Rita prefers the old fashioned method of washing up to a dishwasher.)

I love it!

There are still lots of finishing touches and tidying up to be done, but generally it's fine.

Hooray for home cooking! I'm well and truly over takeaway for a day or so! It's far more preferable to be able to exercise choice when it comes to a decision about whether to have takeaway or eat at home.

'The joy of prep surfaces' alright, Kzee! I've never had such luxury before! Bench space galore compared to previously.

Congratulations Rita,on your wonderful new kitchen. If only wishes were horses.
On another topic, that of dining out, I've had a few experiences lately that I haven't shared but thought I might now.
A group of us dine out once a month trying to go somewhere different each time, last month was the Maypole. Very nice. Chicken scnitzel, wonderful as usual, great wine prices and all served by one busy but very friendly and capable young lady. Rissoles only ordinary but a mistake to order out I feel. No one makes them like Mum. Steak with roast vegies a big hit for a couple of others. As far as pub meals go, we got what we paid for. Unlike a horrifying experience at The Club Hotel last week. Hubby and I dined, only because it's close to home and we had a docket. So as you can expect we knew what we could expect. Having been there before, even though it was quite a while ago, I still expected at least a meal I could consume. Not so with the griiled Trevalla. I'm known to be quite particular but have never in my life sent back a meal, as I did on this occassion. Grilled my A--E! Trevalla my A--E! Fresh my A--E! It looked like the fish may have been cooked on a flat grill plate but only after about 45 hamburgers and steak had been cooked first and then the fish was just whacked straight on top of this.
Hubby had a quite enjoyable giant beef schnitzel, but I just couldn't eat my meal. After saying as much to the gentleman who seemed to be in charge, he then referred me to the manager, who argued his case with me that it WAS trevalla, and it Was fresh, and it WAS grilled, like I'm some kind of moron who knows nothing, finally replaced my meal with something more palatable. Never again!!!
Also didn't enjoy a rather ordinary and very overpriced breakfast at the Beach Hotel at Blackmans Bay. Just ordinary, that's all. Jam Packed gets my vote for a great brekky. Although celebrated a 21st the night before upstairs and had a wonderful beef wellington, wonderful cocktails and I have to commend the ladies who looked after us that night. Very patient and friendly.
I think I've caught up now.
Dining at Flathead this Thursday and after the rave reviews I've read lately I cannot wait.
Lad to hear about The Bund. Next on our list I'd say.
Hope I haven't rambled too much.

Christina, Flathead is fine but expensive for what you get.
Last time, the chips were a mixed bag (!).
It was almost as if some had been fresh fried and others chucked in from a bain marie...even though it was all fresh cooked in front of us.
Some of my trevalla had a floury layer between the outer crispy batter and the actual fish.
And they don't do CRUMBED.
I'm over them already.

Sir Grumpy.

Christina - glad you got all that off your chest! Sounds like we learn from the docket experience?
Re The Beach at Blackmans Bay - pop over to Ms Creosote's latest but one post about her experience at The Beach, then read all the Comments! What a controversial post, that one!
Re Flathead - Sir G, I'm sorry you've had crappy food there lately. It might be worth mentioning to owner. I believe he might be the kind of person that would appreciate the feedback. (There are lots who wouldn't!).

I'd love to hear both of your feedback re The Bund. Chatting to my son today about our food, we had the suspicion that had we got another waitperson (other than the owner), we might have got shoddier service. Am interested in testing that theory.

Not to be unkind, but the other two waitstaff seemed a bit 'clueless' and just seemed to be following orders than have chosen hospitality as their career.

Oh my goodness! Just read Ms. Creosote's blog. Controversy!!! Who'd have it any other way. Keeps us all honest, but that nearly did my head in.
Thanks for the tip on Flathead, Sir Grumpy. I'll let you know how it goes.

Didn't have the owner at the Bund. Lovely young girl who tried hard but wasn't very polished.

Oh well, Kzee, we all have to start somewhere, I suppose.

Christina - don't forget to get back to us after your meal at Flathead.

Sorry, Rita, Flathead wasn't crappy. Didn't mean to give that impression. Look it's a million miles better than most around Hobart but their usual 100 per cent was perhaps 85 per ecnt that day.
Even then, it was fine, My missus enjoyed her seafood basket thingy no worries.
So, go with confidence Christina. I'm almost certain you'll enjoy it.
