AFL Grand Final

I need to formally acknowledge and thank all you footy fanatics out there!

As I went about my lawful business this afternoon shopping in all my usual places, I found myself being only one of four customers, instead of having to queue for what seems like ten years at each place! Woollies New Town was like a desert. North Hobart ditto.

I loved it. Even though I obviously wouldn't pass the new Australian Government laws of answering all those Aussie footy-related questions to get into the country, I'm happy for us to have an AFL Grand Final every Saturday, particularly around the time I habitually shop.

Thanks everyone!

here here Rita, I second that!

The only thing I don't like is the blank, slightly confused looks I get from the service staff because I'm a 40 year old man who isn't sitting at home watching the football...

Spent the weekend building sets for the last Rep play for this season...trying to get people out to help was like extracting teeth from a hen. BUT its nearly done - with the help of lots of coffee, bikkies and random other food.

yes rita agree with the "all quiet on the western front"....but for us in the food industry its not a great day unfortunately...but we still were ok....I like the fact that we have customers of class....that dont just watch footy and drink beer!!! not that I'm lumping you all in one basket of course

Yes, Rita...my missus cottoned onto AFL grand final day years ago as the best shopping day in history.
Wander around the supermarket and bottleo at your leisure and when you're ready, there's checkout to go straight through.
I don't follow the game much. This saturday I did watch and crikey...as a neutral observer it was pathetic as a ``sporting contest''.
It was no contest and a sad joke. Now, the rugby world cup...wow...Fiji, Argentina beating the bigger boys...that's just great entertainment.

Niceglassofred - pity I didn't know which eatery you work at as that was obviously the place to enjoy myself on Sat afternoon after I couldn't get lunch at Express! (Refer my comment to Zelda re them shutting early on Sat afternoon).

Sir G - your wife must have been one of the other 3 customers round the shops I went! Good on us for having the courage of our convictions & admitting to absolutely not one iota of interest in football!

On the topic of shopping, Rita, how's this...
One of the girls at the ``Express'' checkout at Woolies was selling raffle tickets to the trapped customers as they came through one day last week.
It would be bad enough in the ordinary checkout...but express!
We wondered why it was taking so long and thought the woman in front of us was using a cheque book. But no, she had been shoehorned into raffle tickets and was filling out the stubs with her details.
UNBELIEVABLE. What do you think is going through the mind of the staff member who threw this little trick?
I don't know what cause it was for and am generally an easy touch, but this was way out of line. (We bought two and held up the next people in line. But she caught us on the hop and the missus said yes before we thought it through).

That's pathetic Sir G. Are they seriously allowed to do that?

It's amazing, Rita. Who knows if it has been sanctioned?

They're great at having the people at the top of the exit escalator selling raffle tickets, but on the checkout is obscene.

I've found myself getting uncharacteristically rude to these people lately. It seems that everywhere you go, or every time you answer the phone someone wants you to give them something.

I was brusque then hung up on two people tonight. It really gives me the shits that kind of unsolicited thing.

With the raffle ticket issue - I usually politely tell them that I have a commitment to a specific charity and I'm happy with that and not interested in another, then they persist - every time!

I genuinely am committed to the Cancer Council, being an ex-cancer patient. I counsel people diagnosed with cancer, and donate money for cancer funds. My conscience is totally free. I shouldn't have to justify myself to strangers daily.

We're with you rita. We give to guide dogs and kidney foundation.
We buy towels and cards from the Guide Dogs people etc....and they are a delight to deal with.
But you can't support them all...we think one or two is enough.
