Pre-Christmas Christmas celebrations

Rita returned to the city last night in an exhausted state following her Christmas weekend up the coast with half the family.

Today, being Christmas Eve consequently feels like Boxing Day! How odd. Anyway, it gives me a bit of a jump on that traditional post-Christmas feeling of let-down and anticlimax which seems to follow.

We ate the usual hot Xmas fare - Nicholls turkey, stuffed with a beautiful stuffing combination the recipe of which was gleaned entirely out of Rita's head, as well as the traditional roast vegies, and prefaced by prawns and oysters. The old Xmas pud rounded up the meal, with the generous dollop of King Island cream and ice cream.

So - that's the cookery side of Xmas Day dealt with already. The earth shattering decision was finally made to eat out for Xmas lunch - at Customs House. I've never done that in my life before. Never even contemplated eating out on Xmas Day before. Never felt the need. Always have preferred my own cooking. Still do, but will treat tomorrow as an experiment. Another of life's little tests.

I've waitressed at enough Xmas Day lunches in restaurants in Hobart in my life to make that prospect seem quite daunting. They were all so stressful. Peoples expectations are mega-high on Xmas Day. They're mega-high ANY time people eat out and have to pay for it, but Xmas Day really seemed to bring out all extremes of behaviour and emotions. I didn't mind working, but the additional obstacles of the guests was a definite minus!

So - today is a peaceful one for Rita. A bit of parcel wrapping, cooking and general chilling out.

I wish all of you a wonderful Christmas Day. I hope you get the presents you want, and the best of food, love and harmony. Be safe and don't overindulge too much. Don't drink and drive.

Most of all - sharpen up that wit and get ready for another year of blogging, eating and exchanging of ideas and observations about food and dining out in our fair city!

And can someone please find Sir Grumpy and tell him to come home - we need him!

Merry Christmas Rita.
I have been computer-less for more than two weeks, but I'm baaaack.
I've missed you and Gobbler and have a bit of catching up to do.
We had our festive feed on Sunday...Nicholl's turkey with stuffing(!) and wife's pinkeye spud salad. Also nice bit of ham and some roast chicken legs.
Followed up with local raspberries and ice cream, tassie cheeses,
It's good to be be back.
Cheers, Sir Grumpy

Thank god you're back Sir G! I was beginning to think we'd bored you to death. It was way too quiet without your interjections!

Merry Christmas to you and yours too. I think the least you could have done was to invite us round to yours to share that meal you described. Rasps and cream - yum!

You'd always be welcome, Rita.
You and Gobbler I check daily (when not offline!) and I've never been bored with youse two. Quite the opposite.
Interesting that anyone noticed I wasn't rabbiting on as usual!
Oooh, rabbit....thinks wine, garlic, slow cooking...

Sir G - you're a master with wordplay - am trying to think of a domain name for my website, in order to register it, and get it out there.
Hobartfoodforthought.com.au is way too long for anyone to have to enter.
Foodforthought is a porn site!!!

Suggestions from family:
tasmanianhospitality.com.au
hobarthospitality.com.au
foodinhobart.com.au
allaboutfood.com.au

Can you come up with something we can register?
PS I would LOVE to come for dinner some time, amd feel sure Gobbler would do his damnedest to come too.
