Marque IV

Rita had the pleasure, once again, of dining at Marque IV last night, hosting an interstate food blogger and introducing her to the typical dining experience in Hobart! As we had the 9 course degustation which is there online for all to see, I won't go into superfluous food descriptions.

Suffice it to say that, as usual, the food was absolutely top notch, the service definitely couldn't be faulted, the restaurant buzzed with quiet activity and the surroundings were perfect.

In fact - it was a perfect evening. We were the first to arrive at 6.30, and the last to leave at around 11.30. Need I say more?

Thank you SO much Paul and crew. Once again you've kicked arse - and I KNOW all will go well for the Delicious dinners tonight and tomorrow. (Paul showed me the planned menu - it will be wonderful).

The food was absolutely brilliant..extremely polished service and as a North Islander, I was seriously impressed with the beauty of the setting...and of course my dining partners. I have eaten some seriously great meals, but the meal last night was one of the best ever. I advise book now, because once the review goes into Delicious everyone from the North Island will be booking their tickets.
I have had a paradigm shift regarding foam and by accident drove past the winery where the gorgeous pinot noir that we drank is produced. Much to the disgust of the Madame GPS, I did a u-turn and went to buy a bottle to take home.
Thanks Rita for a brilliant night.

Has anyone ever had a less than stellar meal at MIV, I've yet to hear of anyone.

Hi Forde - actually someone at work told me yesterday of a meal that they weren't entirely happy with which they'd had there - coincidentally! They ARE only human at MIV, after all!

Admiting it is an AGE since I went to MIV (I think less than 6 months after they opened) and while I enjoyed the food, the atmosphere of the place really got to me. I found it hard to have a decent conversation.

Hi Tassiegal - I reckon you should try it agin there. I can't remember what it was like when it opened, but on Tuesday night, even though it was pretty full, there was just the usual talking buzz - and NOT competing with any kind of music. Being aged a bit on the older side, I get really annoyed when I can't hear what my table companions are saying in restaurants. (I've put that quite politely to what I REALLY feel about that particular subject!!!)

Anon - I'm sad you had "terrible service" and "OK food", and found it over-rated. I honestly can't see how they'd deliver terrible service in that place. They have extremely attentive staff, who, if anything, pay too much attention to their tables, rather than not enough!
Food - well that's so personal, so if you don't like, so be it - you just don't like it, and that's fine.
As I haven't reviewed Moorilla yet, I can't say anything about it. Amulet - not reviewed either.
But - I honestly don't think MIV is over-rated. I'm always happy to admit I'm wrong or made a mistake, but for flavours and standards, for me, MIV is at the top.

I keep going to back to MIV thinking that it can't be as bad as I remember. Everyone keeps raving about it. Every time (four now) I have been disappointed. My worst memory is vegies coming out not seasoned, limp and uninspiring I actually wished for my nan's grey beans. I think I will try once more as I haven't been for six months. Hopefully some improvements have been made.

I would have said service was one of their better points. Once had a waiter there, who despite being unable to really speak English (as it turns out, we just though he was the silent type) put 99% of Drysdale 'Silver Service' grads to shame. If you found it difficult to have a conversation at MIV I would lay the blame on rowdy diners, even when full it's quite sedate.

Be wary of Morilla Ria, I've yet to hear of anyone who has really raved about it. Though I'm not that into Italian so I'm not the best judge.

Rita - we will, Stephen wants to go back to try again. I do remember a fairly rowdy (read loud) group when we where there.

Found Amulet a bit blah. November, winter menu, sun screaming through the window into my eyes.Asked if we could sit in one of the spare tables. Waiter reaction - it'll set soon. Yeah - 15 minutes of discomfort while the spare tables stayed spare for the next hour and a half!~ Oysters great but the preparation on the menu not available. Seared tuna icy cold. Is that my miscomprehension? Thoght it was meant to be at least warm.

In defence of Amulet Kzee, I have had seared Tuna that was then chilled before serving. Don't know if it supposed to be that way at Amulet, but it is a recognised way of serving Tuna.
