On the Ebb tide again!
Just feast your eyes on this magnificent oyster meal Rita had the pleasure of dining on yesterday! Envious? Well - you need to transport yourself as soon as possible to Swansea - to Ebb Restaurant. Yes, I KNOW I've reviewed it before, and I KNOW my son works there! But I MUST reiterate the food there is absolutely to die for.
I get no benefit at all from my son working there, apart from being able to boss the boy around a bit more than usual!! I'm positive Food Kitty will back me up here when I say that the food at Ebb is top class. The chefs use fresh, top class products for all menu items, and boy does it show. The menu is pretty straightforward, but, I tell you, I was hard pushed to try and pick which meal I loved more - last weeks degustation at MIV or my two meals at Ebb over the past few days.
Seriously - I believe that Ebb currently can hold its own up against the likes of Smolt, Pecora, Farm Gate etc. But at Ebb, they are at a distinct disadvantage though in that their main trade comes from passing tourists - who all love it and rave about the food (and service!!), wax lyrical about the relatively cheap prices compared to the mainland etc, but for repeat local business, they've got a tough time.
That's why I have to hammer the point home here about how great their food genuinely is. If you're someone who enjoys fine food flavours, as well as good wines, great customer service, and a magnificent view, I think you'll be repaid in spades by taking a drive to Swansea especially for a meal at Ebb.

Good onya, Rita. That poor son of yours, getting boss around and all.
I bet you're just a big pussycat with all your brood!
I tried hunting down a website for Ebb, with no luck.
It might be a good idea if there were links on your site to menus from the places you visit, Rita. (with permission, of course).
I love to look at the menus online where possible.
Sir G - I have to admit to having photo'd the menu at Ebb - but Anthony Armstrong-Jones I'm definitely not! Such a disappointing fizzer.
I'll call son later and get the menu and publish - just for you.
BTW - son loves being bossed by mum. He knows he's truly cared for, then! To his credit, he shouted me one of those meals at Ebb. It was his payback for me having paid for our lunch at Smolt before Xmas.
Drive to Swansea, for a meal that is recommended by one of the mothers of the workers, your a little early for April fools aren't you.
I went to Swansea last sunday. by the time I got there, nearly everything was closed or not open yet. I ended up having a large snack at the Ugly Duck Out. It was quite good. I will get to post it eventually. I shall try to be more timely next time.
love the oyster photos. Since arriving home, I've eaten 33 oysters, but I don't think they are nearly as good as Tassie's.
Love the photo. Ebb sounds great!
Had trouble with your microwave corned beef recipe, Rita. Followed it to the letter. The result was very salty and not cooked. Should I have soaked the meat overnight beforehand. I eventually removed it from the cooking liquid and placed it in a large boiler with fresh water and cooked for another 45 minutes. It was then OK. What did I do wrong?
By the way, I often use that lovely Asian recipe of yours from last year with the star anise, ginger, soy etc simmered with meat(chicken in my case) Yum!
Cheers

Sands - bad luck about the Swansea trip. I really would have liked you to have eaten at Ebb, just for interest. Would have liked to see your reactions to their food.
The oysters pictured were a fantastic selection of all the different ways you can have them there, except Natural.
We were advised to eat them in a certain order, which proved to be excellent advice. If I'd eaten mine in the way I usually would have done (by my favourite colours!!), it would have been most unsatisfactory, taste-wise.
Anon2 - Ebb IS great. You and mum must go up there (some people say 'down' there; I myself think it's 'up', as you drive north-east of Hobart!!) some time.
Re the Corned Beef - I'm really sorry about that. I suppose it depends on the size of the piece of corned beef. The directions should have been more specific than they were. I'll chat to you at MIV dinner about it.
Just got back from a week or so in Tassie and happened by Ebb. What can I say? I travel all over the world and Ebb is truly world class. Six courses (3 each I hasten to add) and each was fantastic!
Came across your blog looking for an Ebb website Rita, do they have one? My wife is desperate for the Raspberry Risotto recipe!
