Salt in Moonah

Lunch today was at Salt - and how yummy was it? Mega!

I'm really impressed with this little Moonah venue. Forget about your biases of the NCR (north of Creek Road) variety. This is a great little eatery which comes complete with fresh, tasty, flavoursome food.

The menu is relatively small, but that's fine - there's enough to cater for anyone who's not anally fussy. There's a variety of fish and chips meals, calamari, lamb, steak and a few vego options.

The prices are medium, if a bit on the cheaper side. The service is good; the decor clean and bright. The cooking oil used and cooking method didn't give you that horrible fatty feeling you often get after fried/deep fried food.

I had the Cajun Calamari with green mango salad - which kicked arse. It was exactly what I felt like on this 35 degree day - light and gorgeous. It was priced at $13 which I consider a bargain.

And I had the added bonus of bumping into our Christina there lunching with her family!

So - if you are up for a great meal off the beaten foodie track - why not give Salt in Main Road, Moonah a try?

It looks as though Moonah could overtake North Hobart in the dining stakes over the next year or two.
Everyone's favourite Kawasemi, now Salt, what will be next?

That means I probably drove past you at least twice Rita - was running errands from home most of yesterday and actually contemplated stopping at Salt for coffee, but Express won out as it got me closer to where I wanted and parking was easier.

Lunch with the family at Salt was lovely as always. I nearly had the battered flake, but at the last moment chose a salad of lamb with rocket, pumpkin, fetta, beetroot with a citrus dressing. So yummy.
Hubby chose a turkish steak sandwich with a great pile of chips. Bloody beautiful was his verdict. Pa dined on thai fish cakes with a chilli dipping sauce and the ladies had the fish and chips. The meal was enjoyed by all. My only beef with this place is the bloody great big pepper grinders that the waitress insists on doing for you. But we've had this conversation before.
A great little spot and lets hope Moonah grows with it.
So great to see you again Rita.

We were also in Salt today getting some coffee (takeaway of course). All looked good. Must give it a go soon.

You may well ask, Forde!
Thanks Zelda - I had a quick look before I left for my meal there, so was guided by your review - most helpful indeed!
Ditto Christina - will talk to you soon.
Yobbo - how coincidental. Why didn't you two lunch there? The vego options looked really good. Drag your wife in there soon & tell me how you went!

This is a lovely little place. Totally agree with Rita re cajun calamari - spicy and flavoursome with wonderful tangy/sweet salad. Shared the Thai fish cakes for starters - okay, but not a patch on Flathead's, though, again, salad was simple but superb. Try the poached pear, passionfruit and lemon sorbet - the lightest and tastiest dessert I have had for sometime-with friendly and efficient service and moderate prices - what more could you want?

Salt is a lovely little cafe restuarant in the heart of bohemian Moonah. Just north of the latte line, we found it to have a short but excellent wine list and great service. The menu is pretty good although they could extend the range of options just a bit more eg extra vegie options. Jo & I had dinner there a few weeks ago and despite our protests, SALT staff wouldn't let us pay for our bottle of wine!
Do yourself a favour folks!
