Lunched at Cafe Mojo today - and what a lovely experience it was.
The food was beautiful; the menu was a nice combination of options; the service good; the ambience great; the prices - for what you get - great.
I loved it there and will definitely return.
I ate an Entree sized Chilli Salt Calamari on Thai Salad with Lime and Palm Sugar Dressing, priced at $15.
For an entree, it was large. For the $15 it was perfect. It was just the right amount of chilli spicy, and Thai flavouring. The accompanying salad was predominantly vermicelli noodles, but the blending with the other ingredients worked really well.
It was exactly what I had pictured in my mind that I felt like. Well done and congratulations Mojo, and Michael Prosser. A welcome addition to the South Hobart dining scene, and well worth the wait!

Can't wait to go now Rita.
Heading there in May for my birthday with the girls. Really looking forward to it.
Make sure you get back to us with your feedback Christina! Better still - add it to the website comments, which is a recent addition to the website.
Erk, have to disagree. It's a cafe by numbers and very bland decor.
I had stodgy duck ragout and found a piece of plastic in it.. which the waitress couldn't have cared less about.
That's not good Anon, to find plastic in your food - but mistakes can happen anywhere. Ah well, as I always say - it's one persons experience on the day, and that's all you can really say, isn't it? You didn't enjoy your experience at Cafe Mojo, and I did. Others will have to make up their own minds.
Good to hear you recommend it, Rita. I agree with Anon 6.51 on the decor (you would expect more style in South Hobart) though the back deck is a great addition to the outdoor options locally (have never fancied sitting on Macquarie St to drink my coffee, though the Foodstore does amazing business in all weathers). So far I have only had coffee there, and was given really good service, so aim to go for a meal ASAP - it is now the nearest dining option to my house :)
This one's been on my shortlist for a visit since Graeme Phillips' writeup in Feb. Your review, Rita, prompted us to brave the cold, wet weather and venture out today for lunch.
I totally agree with you. Nice ambience - was nearly full but not too noisy like a lot of places lately. Service was very efficient and polite, if not exactly friendly. I had the lamb shanks, delicious, with lovely spicy ratatouille, chick peas and cous cous. Mon had the battered king fish with wedges and tartare - and pronounced it excellent. With a glass of shiraz and two coffees, the bill was $46. Great value. And Mon said to stress that the toilets were spotless.
Four of us went to Mojo's recently (a Tuesday night actually) and it was full... buzzing and lovely. We all induldged having entree and mains with the tasting plate, calamari (too big for entre but divine) and pork belly (totally delish!) and mains we had the calamari (not much bigger than entre), the lamb shanks (awesome) and the rabbit (which was a little disappointing and with too much sour cream dolloped on top).
The only complaint we had is that our table looked directly at the toilet door. We thought a screening object du art may be appropriate to separate dining from toileting... and you also pick up takeaways from there too...
great to have the new addition in South Hobart I say!
LT
Sounds good, Rita. Having picked up on Kawasemi via your website (honestly, you really need to know what you are looking for to find it!), I will be trying out Mojo as soon as the right occasion presents itself.
What abut the dessert menu? Any Chocolate Brownies (with or without icecream??)
Susannah
Hi Rita2 - looks like we'll be bumping into each other there! And I totally agree about eating on Macquarie St - that concept at Foodstore has never attracted me, but Mojo's back deck is superb.
Anon2 - glad you and Mon went along and enjoyed yourselves. Great day for it too!
LT - wish I'd consulted you on menu items before I went! I loved the Calamari but prior to ordering, was tossing up between that and the Lamb Shanks. Sounds like the Lamb Shanks for next time.
Susannah - you really know how to take the piss! Seriously - the desserts looked great - Warm French Apple Tarte Tartin with double cream and ice cream ($8.50); Warmed chocolate & raspberry pudding with double cream ($7.50); Warmed sticky daye pudding with ice cream ($7.50); Lemon & lime cheesecake ($7.50); Layered berry panna cotta with coulis & double cream ($ 7.50); Cheese selection ($13 & $20).
Coincidentally I am going there for dinner again tonight with a group - so will have the chance for a bit more of the same!
I like Mojo too - service is sometimes a bit hit and miss, but their cheese plates are very good.
Rita
go to Kuzina soon. I think once the cats out of the bag about how good it is, you'll have to book weeks in advance. we went wil Mr Nellie's parents last night and had (this is a big call) one of the best meals we have had in Hobart. Mr Bok had the best entree I have seen, Mr Nellie's mum had a lemon souffle that was a triumph. Not a foam in sight, not too much tizz in the descriptions, but some interesting stuff. In all, dinner for four (entree, main but only two desserts) with two bottles of white and a glass of red - just over $200. Sensational value.
Anyone else have a problem with Kuzina charging money for their food and service,? given that the restaurant is staffed by trainees and apprentices who ay to be educated there? i won't comment on the quality of the food as i have not yet dined there but i am a little concerned that they do not seem bothered about charging the public for a product that is produced by young people who in some cases pay for their own training out of their already under-funded training wages.
I am sure the trainees and apprentices require a qualified competent supervisor (master) who would appreciate being paid for the service of educating them appropriately. I am sure also that the product used to produce such fabulous fare also costs something and isnt provided for free. IndustryLink and Kuzina are a business, not a community service.
I did think about it and didn't have a problem at all. The front of house and kitchen were both supervised - it was clearly a teaching environment and we were given an evaluation/feedback form to complete at the end of the meal.
Sorry for taking the piss, Rita, but I think you took it with the good humour that I intended!
The dessert menu sounds fantastic. I am a sucker for what my father used to refer to as "afters", and my meal choices are often decided after making sure I have room for something delectable to conclude the meal.
Susannah
PS I promise not to mention brownies and icecream again!!
Hi Susannah - I assumed you taking the piss, and would have done exactly the same in the reverse situation!
Feel free to mention brownies and ice cream any time you like! If we can't laugh at ourselves, and each other, well, that's just pathetic and I don't want to be a member of that race of people!
Good on you for going the 'afters'! When I returned there on Wed night for dinner, we shared a cheese platter, which was yummy (and also a Calamari entree). I also got to have the Lamb Shanks - which were as promised by LT, Anon2 and others - beautiful!
if you think the decor at Mojo is bland..then you are BLIND..and the
service is sensational...Michael prosser is a STAR and probably the most experienced restaurateurs in Tassie..he worked for many years on 6 Star boats in Europe..the service there is spot-on..AMAZING..!
I must recommend The House Of Oysters cookbook and guide by Barilla Bay..a very classy book..interesting and informative...a great Mother's Day gift..?
To the anonymous fool who commented on the plastic found in her meal-you are a bloody idiot and liar! I was there on the night and it was dealt with in a professional manner..you are a complete loser!
to anonymous who complained about sitting opposite the toilets at Mojo..are you BLIND? there is a sliding door which hides the toilets from the restaurant..clean you glasses loser !!!
Went to SMOLT for lunch..boring..bland..salmon very overcooked..expensive..what a disappoinment! service the only positive..
Anonymous Mojo fiend - how's about looking at restaurants (Mojo) objectively. Clearly you have a bias and it sounds like more than likely you work there. This blogsite is not for advertising.
Well in regards to Mojo the atmosphere at night is truly warming and cosy....no intimidation here. Seems to be evolving with the little bits being added as I return for cocktails and the lovely Tapas plate. They are new and evolving with swift service and great cuisine yummy as I call it. Objectively when you look at the prices and the value for money plus the high quality of the food and service you would be hard pressed to find a competitor in this category. I have been quite a few times and agree with Graeme Phillips. My Favourite is the rich Duck Ragout and parpadelle noodles which is just wonderful. Yes duck not rabbit to the previous blogger. Cheers to Mojo and lucky South Hobartians like myself rejoice. anon
