That was the week that was....

This week has been one where Rita seems to have done a hell of a lot of socialising, which involved Rita planning and organising three dining out functions. I made the decision to eat at three places whereby nothing was going to be left to chance; where I could comfortably predict how the meal was going to go; how impressed my guests would be with the venue; how convenient the venue was to what we were doing; and how the food and service would showcase some of the best Tassie has to offer, as the three separate functions involved guests from interstate.

My three choices for impressing my mainland counterparts were: Cafe Mojo, Peppermint Bay and Farm Gate Cafe.

Everything was as I required, and more, at each of the venues. The food and service at all three places was excellent. My work colleagues were over-impressed with all we, as a State, had to offer.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all three venues, as they all fulfilled the promises I had previously made to these mainlanders and I'm so happy I wasn't left looking like a total wanker in my talking up of these restaurants prior to the meals.

At Mojo, I recommended the Calamari and Lamb Shanks. All who had them loved them, and raved about them.
At Peppermint Bay last night, with an American film crew filming some cooking show in the kitchen, we were served the most simple but tasty grilled Atlantic Salmon with wasabi aioli possible.
At Farm Gate today, Lee excelled and did us proud with the Warm Lamb Salad with haloumi and pine nuts, as well as the Chicken Pie, and Spare Ribs. Finished off with cheesecake, friands and orange syrup cake - you can't go wrong!

Add to that a side order of a Cheese Tasting at Grandvewe, and you have perfection on a stick!

Yes, I've mixed my metaphors well today - but hell, you only live once! Tassie has triumphed for my interstate visitors, and Rita emerges smelling of roses! YAY!

this post leaves me asking the question......is someone from interstate automatically a discerning, knowledgable barometer for quality in the world of food and wine? it certainly sounds like it.

No Anon. Someone from interstate is not automatically a discerning and knowledgeable barometer for quality food and wine here in Hobart - but, like any proud mother, I was delighted that 'my' state, 'my' products, 'my' restaurants all showcased magnificently exactly what I had promised to my mainland industry experts. We were all people who specialised in a thorough knowledge of various industries (tourism and hospitality being one) so what I had promised, and told them, about our local tourism and hospitality industry was honest and relevant, and of great interest to these visitors.
