Marvellous Monty's
On a roll tonight with the meal at Monty's. You honestly would be hard pressed to find something to fault the place with. The service was perfect; the food ditto; the 'buzz' of the place also added to the experience.
Christina and Rita dined in style and shared the following:
3 entrees:
Funghi Triffolata - a medley of sauteed huon mushrooms with garlic and herbs served over grilled corn polenta served over grilled corn polenta finished with a squeeze of lemon $17 - nice but filling with the polenta
Beef cheek ravioli, porcini cream, truffle oil and chives $19 - absolutely the most stunning of the 3 entrees
Roasted crayfish and panfried gnocchi tossed in pernod infused butter with shallots, garlic and fresh herbs $25 - same as for funghi: nice but filling
2 mains:
2 Tastes of Duck (pictured above) - Confit leg on a sweet potato puree and a chargrilled breast over blanched asparagus brought together with a pinot jus and blood orange vinaigrette $35 - gorgeous
Lemon and thyme marinated lamb rump, butterflied and chargrilled over rosemary pink eyes and wilted spinach with a spiced plum and shiraz relish $32 - brilliant
We couldn't fit one more skerrick of food in after that - much as I slathered over both the dessert and cheese menus.
The restaurant itself is a comfortable set of rooms, kitted out in the manner you'd expect a Battery Point house converted into a restaurant to be.
Natalie and her staff are brilliant. They exude bonhomie, helpfulness and calm. Not one whim or desire was overlooked. Natalie herself was a model of the true definition of the word 'hospitality' - something which I'm amazed I don't come across more often. We could do a lot worse than use this establishment as a blueprint for true hospitality professionals to be 'indoctrinated' by the general hospitality ethos which I'm positive they'd get whilst working there.
To sum up - a great night; fabulous food; great company; impressive wine list (if I'm to use my observations of all the others there who partook of the demon drink!); an experience in indulgence!

Morning, Rita
I haven't yet been to Monty's but a colleague was raving about the cheese there - so it was a shame you didn't have room to try it! He reckons they have the best selection of cheese anywhere in the state (and have even got stuff in specially for him) so that's got to be a real recommendation.
Hi Rita, I am so glad you enjoyed it. We need to keep supporting people like Nat and Matt who relocate to Tasmania to invest their love and passion for food and wine here.

Hey Rita,
Sorry I couldnt join you for dinner - but am holding out for the degustation on Saturday - for which there is now apparently a waiting list. Its a pity you couldnt fit the cheeses in - their list is sublime and has some GORGEOUS stuff (the Quo Vardis blue is to die for).
What a fantastic night!
I was so impressed with the whole experience.
The food was just delicious.
My favourite dishes tried on the night would be the mushroom and polenta entree and the wonderful 2 tastes of duck. I savoured every mouthful. The menu was so good it took me ages to decide what to have. Doesn't help that I talk so much either I suppose.
It was lovely to go with someone who likes to share as I do, so we got to taste more than a couple of dishes.
Thank you Rita for making our evening such a memorable one. I enjoyed myself so much. It was fantastic to see you loved the beef cheek ravioli.
I fell in love with the cutlery. Those funny knives, they felt great in your hand but if I had a dollar for every time I knocked one over I wouldn't have had to pay for my meal.
The wine glasses were another favourite. Such a pleasure to drink from gorgeous glasses, even bad wine would taste better served in them.
Thanks to Nat for being the perfect hostess. It was great to find out more about the place and upcoming events. I'm still drooling over the description of The Christmas Menu.
I had a wonderful time, my only regret that we couldn't fit cheese or dessert in. What a fantastic reason to return!
Christina - from experience the Christmas menu was absolutely amazingingly gorgeous. We booked for this year as we left last year, thats how good it was!
