Catching up

Rita has eaten recently (again) from/at the following places:

• Pigeon Hole and bought one of everything Jay had there on the day. Loved the sample, and look forward to going there with more time to spare so I can actually sit down, relax and eat properly.

• Moorilla where Justin did himself proud.

• Jean Pascals, Bellerive – ever hopeful. A lovely friendly young lady serving, but they’ve still got a long way to go.

• The Bund in Shanghai – gorgeous, but prices have risen a tad.

• Café Mojo – I think I’ve proclaimed this my favourite café. I have the same thing every time I go now. It’s consistently great – the Calamari.

• Cornelian Bay Boathouse – can’t go past Dave’s Chowder. Love it.

• Flathead – again – great seafood takeaway.

• Mures takeaway – the century-old dish Mures Marinade never fails to keep me happy.

• Get Shucked Oysters – bought a dozen from Joe’s outlet on Bruny - $10 a dozen, and worth every cent. They were gorgeous. Had half natural, and half in my own style of Japanese (a variation of Kilpatrick).

I see a thread there – seafood! Oh well, at least I live in the best place for it!

Well Rita, do tell...."my own style of Japanese" Oysters.

Easy - I top them in their shells with mirin, a bit of light soy, some pickled ginger, and, if I've got it, either bacon, or procuitto or similar, then grill for a few minutes.

Cafe Mojo is terrific,I agree the calamari is superb and the lovely young female chef there is very talented indeed.

HI Rita... I braved Jam Packed yesterday for lunch... despite your recent comments about poor service...

I got there at 1pm and ordered the Beef Hot Pot (given the type of day it was!) and was informed it was sold out. Bugger... so had the Pork Noisette instead which was quite nice when it came out 45 minutes later.

My friend had to go and ask where the meals were, and the waiter advised that they had been swamped by patrons on the wintery day that it was. But was very friendly and apologetic about it. My friend had the fettucine, which he said looked small for a big growing boy like him, but he said it was excellent...

perhaps you could brave it again and see if they have improved from Rita's perspective?
