G’day Rita,
Thanks for the vote of confidence! Yes I have some long term plans for the RVL & I have always coveted the space ever since I moved to to Cygnet. Karen the owner & I have been in discussion for some time now & will be a good fit for both of us.
We will close on Mon 16 & Tues 17 of June for a minor stocktake/furniture move around before re-launching.
We’ll be open from 9am seven days with an evolving dinner menu on Frid & Sat nights with an emphasis on food from the Huon & Channel.
Long term plans are to re-commision the massive Scotch oven out the back for breads, pies & pizza.
I’ve been doing shifts on the floor & I have re-aquainted myself with a new found & healthy respect for the workload that our fantastic floor staff do-I thought kitchens were tough!

I’ll keep you posted!

Birthdays certainly do have their uses regarding reason to dine out. A good friend and I again chose today to try out something new for the occasion. This time it was a new chef in the long established cafe in Cygnet. It is very spacious room, perhaps a country picture theater earlier we surmised, a very versatile ’drop-in’ sort of place, with a range of table and lounge seating

We really did enjoy our lunch even though we bit off just a wee bit more than we could chew comfortably by electing to have the potato cakes shared as an entree, followed up by another dish each. My friend had his heart set on trying the potato cakes, but, be advised, they are substantial, irregular shapes of potato covered in a delicious light batter with dipping sauce to complete. I then chose the gnocchi with sweet potato, yummy creamy sauce and roasted nuts, finished with shavings of parmesan. It was a struggle to finish it all but it was too nice to leave. My friend was also confronted with more potato in his choice of salmon gravad lax over a potato salad. The potato held together well in the salad being quite firm and the salmon was melt-in the-mouth and flavoursome. A glass of chardonnay was a nice accompaniment to the meal.

Service was attentive and confident. This is only week two for the newly relocated chef, and we believe he has plans for more changes. We thoroughly enjoyed today’s visit and will go again further down the track as he develops it further.

Finally got the chance to dine on Saturday night.
Our whole party of four were blown away by the fantastic food on offer.
Myself and Lyndal had Baked oyster soup with a pastry lid for entrees. This was unbelievably awesome. So full of flavour. Hubby and Andrew had crispy Calamari with Romesco sauce and Berkshire pork ravioli with red wine sauce respectively. Thank goodness we are all of the same mind and we got to taste each others dishes. The pork ravioli was to die for.
Our mains consisted of Beef fillet with mushrooms and red wine sauce, and while this was lovely, I yearned for Hubbys choice of Slow cooked pork with cabbages and apples. This was melt in the mouth stuff with such a divine flavour. Andrew said his Pan seared chicken breast with onions, mushrooms and bacon was the best chicken he’d ever tasted. It was pretty special.
Warm chocolate pudding and Buttered apples with brioche, salted caramel and vanilla icecream rounded off our experience. Hubby declaring his "apples on toast" magnificent.
Staff were very friendly and welcoming. A minor hiccup with the bill at the end that was fixed with efficiency and a smile.
We went home with breads, jams, big smiles and full tummies.
Cant wait to return. The soup alone is worth the trip. Well Done!

There for lunch a while ago. Suffered from the usual problem of wishing I’d ordered what everyone else had! Everything great. Bread I took home absolutely delish!!

We must have gone to a different RVL.. our experience was boring, over-priced food and service you had to ask for.

Not worth the drive.

We make an annual pilgrimage from Melbourne, such is our confidence in Steve's cooking of the local produce. Good to see a highly skilled chef promoting Tasmanian fare with such aplomb, care, creativity and passion. Our meals at the RVL have always been excellent.

Hello Rita we have just returned from a delightful lunch at Cygnets Red Velvet Lounge but we are still reeling from what we witnessed there today We had just had our cake and coffee when a man stomped inside from the outside area bellowing and waving his arms around in an intimidating manner He then proceeded to humiliate the poor girl behind the bench before turning his attention to another staff member who emerged from the kitchen She looked as through she was trying to calmly reason with him but carried on like a two year old until he stormed off The two staff members were visibly upset not to mention all the other diners including ourselves I have never seen a tantrum quite like it We offered some condolences to the foreign lass who bore the brunt of the tirade and I later learned from the third waitress that he is a local journalist I have read on you site comments about excellent customer service and I would say the girls handled this uncomfortable situation very well Reading an earlier post of yours I wonder if he is the same journalist who criticized other people for their behavior toward another café in Cygnet If so the man is a hypocrite and should be ashamed of himself BTW Im not giving my name Rita as Im afraid that this person might try to contact me and berate me as he did those poor girls at the café

That journalist obviously favours the LE maybe he should go on there payroll

So 1st the Lotus gets a serve now they're attacking the RVL? Good grief!!!

It must have been pretty inhospitable service for a local to have lost his temper as drastically as you suggest. I personally love both the Red Velvet Lounge and the Lotus Eaters Cafe. Cygnet is fortunate to have them both.

Why must it have been the cafes fault? Maybe he is just a high maintenance self important blow hard?
