I knew the time would come but even knowing that doesn't change the actual sadness of loosing the Gobbler blogging.
Steve has decided to pack in the blogging and concentrate on other things in his life. I will so much miss that lifeline of the constant knowledge of his being there.
I'm not going to go on here but am immensely moved by his decision to pull the plug, as I'm sure others will be.
Oh well - at least it gives me added reason to keep checking out the RVL!

I'm worried! Both the-gobbler and Hobart Restaurant Snitch are gone! Was it a murder suicide pact???
I blame global warming.
Oh, bugger!
Kzee
Not one and the same... I hope ???
Just kidding !
Cool room
Oh Rita, I didn't know until I read your post, and when I tried to click on the Gobbler link for 'Last Calls' I get told that the blog has gone!!! Can anyone post it somewhere? His writing on occasion was so evocative, of life in the Huon and of his personal views. Good luck Gobbler.
Sob...he was my first.
Were's Sir Grumpy going to hangout?Oh, I see he's here.
I thought this may happen, so sad.
It's our loss. I will so miss his way with words. Maybe he will find another outlet for his wonderful stories that fed my imagination so well.
We finally got to RVL on Saturday night and it was wonderful. I've left comments on Rita's Website so I won't go into more.
Hopefully we'll still see Steve on your site Rita. I wanted to let him know how much we enjoyed our experience on Saturday, so Steve if you read this, well done to you and all at RVL. We'll definately be back.
I'll certainly miss him (doing so already). His blog was lively and informed and it's a shame to loose it completely. Good luck, mate.
phuckaduck that's shitful news.
sorry but i can't find an eloquent way to express my disbelief at this point in time having (a) missed his goodbye (and i thought I had read ALL his posts since finding him); and, (b) grown rather weary of the niggling on a number of blogs.
I will miss his insightful posts. What a shame.
I managed to say thanks on his site, then half an hour later it was gone.
By the way, Ed, I don't hangout....I always tucks it in.
Oh No! I missed the Gobbler's last post too!!!
What a pity the blog has been removed - even without new entries, some of the writing was so lovely it was worth a return visit or 20. And what happens if I want to make his sourdough bread again??
Assuming he is still lurking in cyberspace somewhere...thank you Gobbler, for sharing your love of food and language with such good humour and passion.
Thanks everyone for your comments. Steve will look in every now and then and said he was going to retain his profile so he could still comment on blogs, so I know he'll appear now and then. He now has more time for pursuing that beautiful writing that many of us have seen for ourselves in past posts of his.
I'm very much looking forward to his first publication which I'm positive will be the result.
Christina - he saw your comments and was so pleased you went down and enjoyed your meal. Say hi to him next time.
I feel like I am contributing to an obituary.
So Gobbler, thanks for all them posts I got round to late at night. You were something to look forward to during the late night bookwork. I for one will miss the passion and info from down the southern end.
Good luck with the RVL. You ever want to catch up, Rita has my E-Mail.
Cartouche.
Vale Steve, it was a bloody good run, a interesting and evocative read (both of them) but most of all it added to the colour, imagination and sense of community in Southern Tassie's food landscape. Good luck mate. Talk soon.
In reference to your literary skills, shall I just say, vaille Steve?
As he rides off into the sunset, may I say I was proud to know him and often sat around the campfire warming my beans on the warmth of his blog. Adios amigo...you'ol come back now ya hear!
