Rita had to go to Kettering to collect some pre-ordered sausages from Lee Christmas at Farm Gate this morning. The obvious thing was to grab a bite to eat at Farm Gate and catch up with what is going on in Lee's world (lots, but I'll devote a post to that later), but secondary was checking out the site of extreme devastation where the old pine trees which previously lined the avenue leading up to the former Oyster Cove Inn, which, as I saw yesterday for the first time, have been chopped down, leaving this site looking as if some gigantic massacre has taken place - see photo above taken from the Channel Highway in front of the servo, looking at the driveway.
Wow! I don't know what is planned for there but rape and pillage are words that immediately spring to mind! I'm not an OTT greenie, but the sight of that freshly denuded driveway was so stark I was gobsmacked.
I can't think of any reason why one would want to do that other than to build something in the area, so assume some building will take place on the grounds. But guys - they were really old trees; they weren't harming anyone, surely? Those Alice in Wonderland-related wood carvings done by Roland Gabatel in the trunks of many of the trees are gone too. I realise I'm probably coming across like some old fogey who always uses the rationale that just because something is old, it therefore has credibility and value. That's definitely not the case.
Oh well, c'est la vie, but I don't have to like it, do I?

Christina had to go to Kettering today to pick up some pre ordered sausages too. Apparently we drove in as you drove out Rita. Sorry to have missed you. We also managed to come away with a beautiful rolled loin of pork that Phil has earmarked for dinner tomorrow night. So after a stop at Merediths for granny smiths and king edwards, Phil can hardly wait.
Except we are still so full from lunch!
11 dined at Farmgate today, thought I may as well bring half the family. We all loved it. Bangers and Mash, Caeser Salad, Cider Battered Flake, Steak Sangas, Beef Pie and the list goes on. Have to say that for a man recognized for his outstanding pork, Lee cooks a mean piece of fish. Best in Tassie in my view. Pity that competition is over.
How was Kettering coping with it's terrible man drought? I really worry about it and think of the kids...
Hi Christina - sorry I missed you. Lee told me you were lunching there today, but I couldn't stay long enough to catch you. Glad you enjoyed your lunch. We had a beautiful pork dinner tonight as well, courtesy of Lee.
MM - appreciate your concern about the infamous man drought in Kettering. Why don't you give the girls a break and move down that way yourself? I'm positive the Scottish accent combined with your quirky sense of humour would guarantee your golden years would truly be filled with joy!
We nearly ended up there on Saturday - but went for a walk to Snug falls instead! I need to get out there soon as I have promised a mate of mine a roast dinner next month and I need Lee Pork for it to work!
was up that way myself last week rita and was HORRIFIED that somebody could do that. I loved going and looking at the beautiful carvings at the oyster cove inn and recommending them to others adults and children alike. I think its a shame that they have ruined the "feel" of the wooded wonderland and can only hope that in some way the arvings are put somewhere they can be viewed again
oops meant to write carvings not arvings people will think I had one too many glasses of red when I don't actually drink at all anymore...I'd better change my nickname
I gather the carvings (or arvings!)actually are in the pile of bulldozed wood waste there onsite, niceglassofred. So sad, eh?

Thanks rita hope to see you soon...give me time to settle in though. Went past dumpling world yesterday and was so tempted but it was packed so something must be working in there. I got a mushroom soup from the gourmet deli in the mall it was fabulous!! $3.20 (without bread,which I didnt want anyway)
Sorry, but that sign reminds me of Royston Vasey from the league of gentlemen, "You'le never leave", anyone for some special sausages...?
