A quickie

Popped in to an old favourite, Taste of Asia, the other day for a catch-up lunch with the girls. This little quiet achiever retains its consistency as a provider of cheap but tasty Asian food no matter who is running it so the formula obviously works.

I have added it to the list of cheap and cheerful here on the blog.

HI Rita, perhaps we should catch up for a lunch soon? I am a little worried about your lost mojo? I hope its not being lost with the other Mojo?

Have just read your comments on Garry and Ian - now here's a thought- wouldn't it be great if they came back to run front of house at the Boat House. You mentioned they still have an interest in it and it seems that there is a large turn-over of good front of house staff at the Boat House. Such a beautiful venue but missing strong committed front of house staff (like so many other places)The place would be pumping if they were there - come on Garry and Ian - could you swap Sydney Harbour for Cornelian Bay?

Anon - much as I love the boys, and would love to see them back here in the state running something, I think CBBH FOH staff are as good as any around these days, overall. Yes, they have hiccups, and the odd time where you are on the receiving end of crap service but generally I have found them to be as good as one can expect in the service industry these days. That sounds like I'm putting them down. I'm not. I'm trying to be clear in what I say.

Hi Rita. Consider adding Alley Cat(formerly Trout)in North Hobart to the list. Despite the unusual decor, the place has very friendly staff and clientele. The menu sounded interesting and the food turned out to be really good. BJ and myself both agreed it was a real find. We both had - Prawn cigars w. deconstruction tartare
($9) and Roasted cauliflower blue cheese and walnut lasagne w. grape concasse ($14.50) . Despite sounding a bit weird, the food was fresh, tasty and prepared with some care. Do try!

I agree with that Rita. On the night we attended the service was excellent. I was more than impressed with the young gentleman who appeared to be in charge and the girls were charming despite being run off their feet.
The shame was that I felt that these were just stop gap jobs when the young people were so good at what they were doing. It's not just what people today aspire to be. There must have been a little passion involved for them to be so good at it.

Hi Anon2 & Christina - thank god someone told me where Alley Cat was! One of the YP staff was leaving work today and the email came round about farewell drinks being at Alley Cat. I didn't have a clue where it was so ended up not going.
Sounds good. Will have to get along there.

Its great food at the alley cat because Scott Butler is cooking there.
Freed from the constrictive shackles of his former employers, his talent can finally shine.

Interesting - what is Scott Butler's background - not a name I've heard of, but then again I'm probably out of tune with the recent comings and goings. Nice to know there is another place worth visiting on the North Hobart strip though - will be trying it soon.
