Lindisfarne Yacht Club

Remember my old friend Deb? My companion at the Junction restaurant in New Norfolk a few weeks back? Well, Deb called me again the other day with a few more suggestions of places she insisted I’d LOVE, and that she wanted to take me to.

So tonight found us driving into the parking lot at Lindisfarne Yacht Club. Once again, not a place you might automatically think of when you think of a meal out. They have had a renovation there, and with their recycled chef being Paul Kaspousen (ex The Globe hotel kitchen, and prior to that, Exec Chef Wrest Point) things are looking rosier for them. They do meals Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights now, and with their new dining room looking down the Derwent, it is a perfect venue for a night out, especially if you’re a Lindisfarnian. The place was rocking tonight, and all tables in the dining room were booked.

The menu is pretty straightforward with not too much choice – two roasts, fish and chips ($18), chicken schnitzel ($19), bangers and mash ($13.50), a special of the day, and a few desserts ($8). But for this venue you don’t actually need too much choice, as long as you enjoy yourself. The prices are moderate; the service excellent; the food great. I had the Roast Lamb ($14.50). It was exactly as I would have made it myself, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Deb ordered the Salt & Pepper Squid (Bar Snack, $9) as an entrĂ©e, which I tasted but didn’t feel like. It didn’t matter as she’s such a great eater that I didn’t really get a look in anyway! I gather she enjoyed it. She also had the Roast Lamb and loved it too.

We didn’t hang around, and were home at 8.30. Another place with simple food, well cooked. Thanks LYC.

Deb has next Thursday night booked for us to eat out again, at a place I am approaching with quite a bit of trepidation……Rita is trying to keep an open mind here…..let’s wait and see……
