Steak and chips, again

Last night’s dinner was at my old favourite, Le Provencal in Macquarie Street, South Hobart.

On mentioning to a few workmates that I was eating there, I was asked if I was going to have my usual - the Peppered Steak – and the answer was of course in the affirmative – however all my plans were foiled when I got there to find Jean-Claude had changed the menu and taken my beloved Peppered Steak off the menu, replacing it with the same Eye Fillet steak but with a Mustard Sauce instead of the Peppered Sauce.

Well I gave it a try, and it was fine, but it wasn’t the Peppered sauce I was anticipating – so my cravings went unfulfilled.

The other food we ate there (mushrooms in a flavourful tomato concasse, and a beautiful seafood tart with scallop, mussel and prawn in a rich chowdery sauce) was fabulous. I sampled Pete’s duck main course (pictured below) and have to say it truly rocked as well, but nothing could make up for the lack of peppered steak I’m afraid!

We shared a Crème Caramel for dessert – equally fine, but it still didn’t make up for the lack of peppered steak!

You can tell I’m sulking, can’t you?

Rita I am very interested in your post because although we live in South Hobart and just a few hundred metres from Le Prov Mary and I stopped going there a year or so ago because we felt that it had lost its spark.

Hi Stephen - we must live close to each other as I am near Le Prov too. I think probably as with many restaurants, places wax and wane, and maybe Le Prov did for you too. They've been operating for many years now, with the same owner/operators. I think sometimes people get a bit 'over' it at work, till they have a holiday, or do something differently.
