Along with the new Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Companion cook book which Dymocks directed Rita’s way the other day, they added the new Maeve O’Meara Food Safari cook book, which Rita made sure she had enough time over the weekend to scour (but that was in between rounding up the wandering and errant miniature ponies belonging to Rita’s brother which saw fit to lead us a merry dance in hot pursuit across the countryside of Cradoc most of Sunday!).
I don’t know about you, but I have an extensive collection of cook books following a lifetime’s interest in, and passion for, food and cooking, so tend to think more circumspectly these days about whether or not to buy one. That means I have to be able to justify (to myself) that I’m sure this addition to my culinary library will actually be used.
My summation of both these cook books is that both are valuable volumes to buy.
I own the dvd’s of the Food Safari series, so having the “script” (ie the cook book) to same makes so much sense.
I’m looking forward to attending the Stephanie Alexander lunch this coming Monday at Moorilla, and the upcoming Maeve O’Meara lunch (also at Moorilla, on 2nd November) as well, and am pretty sure I’ll buy both cook books – because I don’t think life will be quite the same if I DON’T!

Hi Anon 2.01 - Not sure about the cost of the Stephanie lunch but the Maeve is $75 which includes 2 course lunch plus drinks.
Anon 2.51 - I'm not sure WHO is cooking out at Moorilla now, but I reckon I'll find out on Monday! It's all part of life's rich tapestry!
Sometimes I wish my chef would disappear...Today he started his shift at 8a.m & decided that he wouldn't speak until 10. As Franklin P Jones once said,"You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance".
Hmmm! Yes, I'd certainly agree with Franklin P Jones. They're a strange breed, aren't they? (Chefs and children!)
Maybe like most chef's he is not a morning person until he has had at least 5 coffees.
Or maybe like most (adult) kids, he just doesn't feel the need to communicate with his mother! (God love him!)
I think with Stephanies new book she has cemented herself well & trully into one of the worlds most influential food educators.
People rightly recognise Elizabeth David for opening the eyes of post war Britain & beyond to the joys of Mediterranean food but I reckon Stephanie has been just as significant not only here in oz but on a world stage.
I agree Steve. I love the Tuscan cookbook written with Maggie Beer...the recipes are so simple...they let the ingredients speak for themselves.
