I have just deleted the previous post and its accompanying comments. It appeared to be causing way more stress and angst than I would wish to be caused to anyone.
This blog is aimed at discussion about all things food and hospitality, predominantly, with a sprinkling of side chatter about various aspects of life which revolve around food, and hopefully a pinch of humour thrown in for good luck.
As Aunty Jack's character, butcher Kev Kavanagh, used to say, "Peace, meat freaks" - inferring, possibly, that eating too much meat could tend to make you slightly more aggressive than the next person!

it was getting a bit ratty but I thought it mostly fair comment Rita.
It's your blog but it can't all be sugary and nice (like me).
I think most of us would like you to dive in earlier on suvh occasions.
Like my aunties stopping the family tribe from getting too much!
I'm still excited about Meat and Wine Co!!!!!
Thanks for your comment Sir G. I would normally have weighed in earlier but events have conspired against me over the past 2 days. Christina - sounds like Meat and Wine Co are a great restaurant. Are they like Ball & Chain?
Nice flower Rita.
This new restaurant place sounds good.
BTW went to Doms Asian Teahouse in Blackmans Bay yesterday for the first time in 5 years and it was fantastic.
Had lunch at Rockwater on Sunday, and it was a nice experience.
Hurray for Dom. He's a legend. I hope we all support him because he's such an asset.
Beef rendang anyone?
PS hope all is well with you Rita and those events aren't conspiring too much. You know we all love you.
Agreed Anon 6.16 and Sir G - we all love Doms. I was afraid, from what he told me last time I saw him last year, that he was closing down at the end of last year, but he is still open, so I am happy about that. Long may he trade.
Thanks Sir G - just my car cacked itself and required 3 days at the mechanics, so I have had to bus to work in the wee hours of dawn (which = 2 bus trips to work then 2 more trips home, which equals a damned long time travelling and waiting for buses), combined with an intensive workload at work has rendered me unconscious when I have reached home at night, cooked tea then finally collapsed into bed!
Chopsticks use damn tripe imstead of chicken, gross, Doms is the way to go!!
Rita, wash your mouth out!!!
Meat and Wine Co are to Ball and Chain, what Marque IV was to Sizzlers!!!!
Maybe thats a little extreme, but my experience at Meat and Wine was wonderful.
We visited in October, four ladies, {cough, cough,}, looking for a late lunch, on a very warm day in Melbourne.
We pretty much just ordered some lovely salads and bread, but then...... on the next table comes something I'd only ever dreamed of.
I can't remember the exact name but very similar to a good kebab. So we declared "we'll have what they're having!"
Ours was skewered steak and prawns with vegies, barbecued, hung vertically over a dish of potatoes, so all the juice dripped down, and you just slide it off as you like onto your plate, or into your mouth.
There is a proper name for this and I will endeavour to find out, but if this place ever comes to Hobart, and it's as good as the Melbourne one, it will blow us away!!!!
Had THE best fetta I've ever tasted in the greek salad too. Was going to ask them where it came from, but in the excitement of the moment, I forgot.
I have a picture of this dish on my phone and will endeavour to get this to you!
You can tell I'm excited can't you?!!
By the way Sir G! Missed you, where have you been hiding?
Glad you're back!
Thanks Christina. Didn't have a computer for a time and ended up using one at local library.
But just kept up with reading Rita and the comments of her clan.
Didn't like to clog up the machine as the centre is busy.
So you were spared lots of my inanities! Lucky things.
Let the sunshine shines again. What a lovely Sunflower.
It is a shame that it has to come down to this (with you having to remove your last post). You are doing a great thing for local passionate food lovers, who otherwise would not have a place for their voices to be heard.
Btw there is going to be a new chinese restaurant at the corner of Forster and Montagu Streets, New Town. Drove past the area on way to Woolies New Town and saw a big Chinese Restaurant sign. If I can remember correctly, I think it is called Wah Yuen. NOt sure if it has already been opened or not. Anyone has any information on this place?
big developments in murray st. is it a new oomph and what's going next door? saw the guy from marque iv with others measuring stuff, maybe a new marque iv? the old lo cost looks like it might be a food hub? anyone?
Woops, Christina! Consider my mouth well and truly washed out! I'm sorry but I hadn't heard of them before I received that particular bit of info then googled them.
Hi Victor - thanks for the comment and the new Chinese restaurant info. I'm presuming that would replace that 'family', all-you-can-eat restaurant I presume? (On the site of the former Maypole Bakery?)
Thanks Anon 1.04 - someone left the question about that very coffee place here last week, with someone else replying that it was going to be an Oomph, but no one mentioned the new development next door. That's the first I've heard of it, so am sorry I can't help you there, but maybe another reader can enlighten us?
Damn...didn't get to read it.
You poor trout Rita.
x
Yes, at the previous bakery building sites. Hope it is an authentic cantonese with yum-cha, and not a tacky chinese takeaway joint. Time will tell.
Dear Rita, as the daughter of the owner of the restaurant mentioned in your deleted post, I would like to thank you for making the wise decision to take it down. It caused my mother a lot of stress and a lot of heart ache. She is not as computer able as I am so she told me to tell you that she thanks you for taking it down.
