Enjoy your break Rita, but please come back!
I miss you already.

I can feel a community uprising...

Does being a blogger on holiday mean cutting yourself off completely, like a journalist on holiday not reading the paper or turning on the radio?

All the best,
Eliza

You look after yourself, Rita.
Sometimes we need a break just to refresh.
Rest assured all your blog mates will miss you.
We may disagree (nicely) from time to time but I remain a loyal blog-pal.
Cheers.

Rita - As a fellow blogger, sometime it does get into you. Take a long break, and come back when you think the time is right. Rejuvenate and revitalise. But, hopefully you will come back soon. You have lots of fans out there. :-)

You hurry back now ya'hear?

Right, I'm the anon who made the complaints RE customers on the other thread.

Look you guys probably all think I am a wanker, but let me assure you that what I wrote is what everyone in industry is thinking. And no, I don't need a new job, just a holiday. Working 100 hours a week in industry has its pitfalls...

Rita... Sorry to hear your having a break from blogging.

Have a rest, chill out and we look forward to seeing you back.

No other Tassie blog is as informative, comprehensive or as interesting as yours.

I stop by every night for a quick read and thoroughly enjoy it.

Dont delete the blog, that would be silly and a waste of a valuable resource, this blog is an important snapshot in time. I will be waiting patiently til you come back and resume blogging. I have been a long time reader of your blog and generally enjoy your blog very much.cheers Kim

Just wanted to say we had a gorgeous dinner at Piccolo, North Hobart. The soft-centred choccy pudding is AMAZING.. I wanted to curl up inside it!

Anonymous said...

I concur with last anaon. The meal I had at Piccolo a few weeks back was the best I'd had in Hobart.
Lovely, flavoursome & well crafted food

By her words will they remember her . . . until she returns once more.

I have spoken to Rita. I don't know where you get the idea she's just on holiday and returning soon. She doesn't sound like she is. And she's definitely not on holiday anyway, not till next week.
She seems quite committed to not blogging any more.
So don't hold your breath for her to finish her 'holiday'.

Anonymous said...

look what you've done now steve.

Anonymous said...

Why is Rita committed to not blogging?

And huh? What did Steve do?

Look I reckon this blog was getting a bit too heavy on abuse. We can all sit at our computers and say restaurants and shit and so and so is a wanker but we are not always in possesion of the full facts.

Atus said...

No doubt this thread will just keep ticking over with speculation until Rita returns or forever depending on whether she does or not.

Anonymous said...

Hi Atus?

Steve was completely out of line and look at the pleasure it has cost us all - not to mention the Tassie food scene...

Anonymous said...

What did steve *ACTUALLY* do? can someone tell me cos I am confused..... :/

Anonymous said...

I dont think steve did anything wrong. He quite rightly sttod up for his staff. This site was getting stale anyway.

Anonymous said...

Steve IS the Tassie food scene

Rita was upset at the service at RVL. At the end of the article it said something along the lines of "you don't know who my friends are" referring to Steve and Rita's friendship. Steve, quite rightfully, stood up for his staff. You can't say things like that.

I was wondering if this site was going to close. The articles were less frequent, there was a lot of deleting of opinions, some opinions being quite fair and reasonable many others not. I think the negative comments may have pushed Rita over the edge. Especially with all that press about defamation. Not that Rita was any part of it. Just a medium for it.

Anonymous said...

Forgot to say I hope she comes back. LOL! Best of the bunch! :)

Anonymous said...

steve could have dealt with this in private. using words like creepy and wierding out is a public humiliation, and what seems to be a cruel lesson. i'd hate to be his friend.

Bnonymous said...

WTF has Steve got to do with Rita taking a break? Get a grip guys.

Anonymous said...

I can assure all commenters on this site, as well as all people reading that whatever Rita said to steve or whatever Steve said to Rita has nothing to do with Rita's holiday. Rita just wants a break.

Maybe someone new will come along? They wont ever be as good as this blog, but they can try.

Anonymous said...

Wow steve got a lot of coverage on this post and here's me thinking the post was about Rita retiring!

Anonymous said...

I read this blog daily and understand why Rita has decided to give it away. It seems that it has just become a platform for a disgruntled anonymous minority in which to spread their bile, the last few comments about Steve Cumper are a case in point. As far as I can tell, steve replied to Rita's post and quite rightly in my opinion, questioned her about the validity of her closing remarks, which he though were not constructive. To argue that he should have done this in private is ridiculous when Rita has publicly complained about her service experience on this blog.
Doesn't everyone deserve a right of reply?

Anonymous said...

Maybe Rita has got a bit sulky about some comments and is waiting to be coaxed back by floods of affection from her avid readers and fans. Poor old girl seems susceptable to the occasional meltdown. Maybe she's a bit too sensitive to criticism. After all, this blogging business can be a pretty savage environment.

Mad Monk said...

Rita hasn't taken a break from blogging, she's retired Malcolm Turnbull style (although without the massive dummy spit). Maybe she will return when she realises how much we miss her. Just like Malcolm did.

Anonymous said...

So Steves finished now as well? He's got test pattern up.

Anonymous said...

Well I hope you all can see the irony in Rita having a critical review of RVL left up as the second last post on her cyberspace tombstone!

Hey lighten up everybody!

I hope there isn't a serial culler on the go!

Well maybe this internet restaurant review blogging, annon commenters, trip adivser, is not that productive in helping restaurants improve.
Lets get back to the good old days if you have a problem, complaint or critisism about your dining experience TELL the owner of the restaurant. By doing this you give the owner a chance to fix/ apologise/ compensate/ or justify the problem. Im sure that any restaurant owner would take any polite complaint/critisim seriously and address it to the staff involved.
Reading about a bitch a customer has had on the internet two months after the event not only greatly upsets the owner, but also leaves them helpless. The owner CANNOT reply to the comments on the internet with out sounding bitter.
A example would be when a guest describes there dining experience as "boring" on a internet site (how is a restaurant owner able to improve on this?)PLEASE EXPLAIN was the steak over cooked?, the wait person rude???

I was going to write a shedload of stuff, but then I thought nah, so I thought I would just say thankyou for being a valuable part of my life down here in Tassie.
There have been very few times that I have not looked in, and I and many restauranteurs have found this blog to be a valued resource for all opinions and moods in the industry. There are a good few who should thankyou for highlighting their businesses and bringing a greater awareness of the Tassie dining seen to a wider audience, all I might add at your own time and financial expense.

I for one shall miss you, I hope only for a while, but if this is goodbye, then in the words of Douglas Adams in the hitch hikers guide to the galaxy when the Dolphins left "thanks for all the Fish"

Have you tried the quail terrine accompanied by the duck parfait and the chestnut raviilli with assorted mushrooms at piccolo? These dishes are a class above the usually high standard fare.
