Luck of the Irish

Place: Irish Murphys
Food eaten: Haloumi Burger, and Pork Belly on Asian greens (entree size)
Judgement: burger - Bec loved it; pork - my pork was extremely well done, and nearly as good as one I had at Marque IV from Paul Foreman a few years back.
Irish makes no claim to being Hobart's premier fine food establishment but chef (I believe he is named Justin, ex New Sydney) does a damn fine job of catering to his clientele. For what I wanted, and what we got, and paid for it, I believe we had excellent value, and congratulate Justin.

Ohh I loved Justin's food at the New Sydney. The new chef is great too, but it's nice to know where I can find Justin now!

Hi Anon 3.05 - it's a compliment to Paul, and not a dig at Irish - in fact I have since found out that Irish are using Paul's pork belly recipe, so not only am I obviously vindicated in comparing the two pork belly dishes, but I obviously have an unerring instinct for great food!!
Bri - you'll have to divide your eating time now between New Syd and Irish!

Hi Rita, just a quick correction to your post to say that the chefs name is Jason not Justin, and yes he was at the New Sydney Hotel prior to going to Irish Murphys. I highly recommend trying the lamb shanks and the frangelico panna cotta.divine!!!

Thanks Anna - I apologise to Jason. I was close to selecting the Lamb Shanks, so will have them next time. Thanks for the recommendation.

I have eaten at Irish Murphys several times over the past few years and I have to say that the evolution that the food and menu has taken over the past few months is nothing short of amazing. I recently tried a bowl of tempura mushrooms from the entrees annd a tuna nicoise from the specials, and my husband had the most perfectly cooked angus scotch fillet from the specials board. The position of this place is excellent and the food is sure to become more of a hit with the locals and tourists alike. THA awards nomination anyone?
