Taking to the road

Spent a lovely day yesterday doing a food crawl down the Channel with some workmates. Started at Peppermint Bay for lunch in the bar. No prizes for guessing that I had - yep - it was the Chowder! Yum, but way too much in that ginormous bowl! Wish I could have taken what I couldn't tackle home with me, but NO WAY would I ask staff for doggy bag, especially after the last weeks blog exchanges about that! (Apologies to Whitey!)

Next stop was Grandvewe Sheep Cheesery for a little wine & cheese tasting. Bought some cheeses, then on to check out Fleurtys. Lovely view, good setup, but limited menu plus, not that we wanted to eat there, they apologised that they were fully booked that day - so it would appear that if you want to do the good old Aussie Sunday drive down the Channel, you're best off booking if you have your heart set on eating somewhere specific down there.

Then it was on to Garden Island Creek for a walk along the beach, and on to Cygnet. I was really keen to check out some of the places GG and Gobbler had spoken about but my companions overuled me & we proceeded to Panorama Vineyard for more wine tasting & buying, then dessert & coffee at Home Hill. That was yummy too.

There is so much to see and do in that corner of the world. It is picturesque, friendly, laid back, relatively close and worth remembering that it's actually there. I love it.

Glad you enjoyed the Channel Rita.
We ate at Fleurtys and it was great. Relaxed, friendly and though the menu choices weren't huge, there was enough for jaded palates. I loved parking in that little clearing too.

Anon Five.

I'll definitely go back there. Maybe for coffee & cake. Glad to hear about your visit tho. I'm really wary about believing Merc reports about these places. You never know where the hidden agendas are with them.

Rita,

May I ask, do you really like Panorama Wines?

I am all for supporting local industries (dining, wine and produce) but four out of four times, Panorama Wines have disappointed us. Corky, sour no character - and their newish (or at least to us newish) Huon River label which seem to be a half assed attempt to sell off some crap harvest...who are they kidding?

I love the Channel area too - haven't stopped by Fleurty's but will give it a shot perhaps tomorrow

Cheers!

Hi Nina. To be quite frank, no, I don't like Panorama wines. My eating companions were the instigators of that particular visit. Left to me, as I said in the blog, I would have gone to a few of those venues in Cygnet that Gobbler has mentioned.

My wine preference for that area is Home Hill.
