Lunched today in the relaxing surroundings of the Cornelian Bay Boathouse with Dave at the helm, ably assisted in front of house by Nick and Kezia. Both waitstaff were brilliant. Their service delivery style matched the surroundings - easy, efficient, laid-back and friendly.
Every item on the menu (which Kezia told us was new) was one that I would normally select so the decision of what to have was hard. In the end, because it was only lunch time and we weren't truly starving, and because we are both slaves to a decent Chowder, we chose the famous Boathouse Chowder.
I have been to the Boathouse quite a few times over the years since attending its official opening many years ago - memorable because of the extravagance of the catering on the day!
In all the times I've been there I've never tried their chowder, so today was a first, I'm ashamed to say. Most keen foodies I know have at some stage raved about this dish over the years so I was well overdue to sample it. And boy did it live up to its reputation.
It had the most subtle of flavours and was truly worth waiting all these years for it.
That's all we had, apart from drinks. Simple and flavoursome on one of those beautifully sunny crisp autumn days that we love so much in Tassie. We picked a great day for relaxing at the Boathouse.
