Light on the horizon

YAY! I just heard the best news I've heard for ages.

TAFE have got a guy there who is targetting those dinosaur teachers at TAFE who are stuck in the good old public service rut, waiting for their time to come.

Well - it appears their time is indeed coming.

This white knight of service standards, on his charger, is systematically looking at staff performances within TAFE, and demanding value for money. If he doesn't get it, they're out.

That could be a starter for our vision of the future, in particular regard to service, given that many people seem to blame TAFE Drysdale for any crap restaurant service they might have received. Totally unjustified in most cases, but I've heard it frequently.

So - good one TAFE. Kick more butt!

Best news I heard in ages was that Cumper was leaving Peppermint Bay. I'll go there now.

Worst news was that he wasn't pissing off back to melbourne.

Ouch! Can I sense some aggro here against Steve?

Using your logic, Anon, surely you would have been happy to have Steve safely tucked away down at PB & out of your way?

Granted, if you wanted to go and eat there, that was one particular restaurant you couldn't, but it sounds like you didn't get to go there anyway because of your opinion.

i hope that the system doesn't fail after the review.
unfortunately TAFE provides a fantastically paid outlet for industry escapees! being a TAFE teacher myself and on the verge of resigning, because of this fact, i have experienced the general frustration of having collegues who wouldn't and couldn't function in the real world. unfortunately these people are the ones shaping the future of those who will.

funding is a major issue, but getting brilliant teachers who have excellent, contemporary experience in the industry they teach is nigh on impossible.

goodluck drysdale, where ever you are, you'll need it

Why not get currently practising chefs to workshop at Drysdale to both students and teachers. Surely these workshops could be slotted in to an apprentices time?

Hi Annette - thanks for your comments. I take your point and agree 100% about those shocking TAFE teachers who just sit there, not contributing one iota to the education system. It is truly frustrating when you just know that there is no way they would retain a job in the REAL world.

Anon - I believe Drysdale are already doing this, but I will check my facts & report back here.
