....and Rita is sitting back contemplating her past and her future, assessing life, as you maybe do on your birthday.
As only I can make a self-indugent breakfast exactly the way I want it, I have done exactly that, ably assisted by Boks bacon, Nellies lovely, sweet, homegrown tomatoes and an egg. That in itself is birthday present enough, really.
Gobbler made a comment in a recent post about now being classified as an "old fart". I suppose, if he is one, I really am one too (being older than he is), but I fight that categorisation.
I have some wonderful meals coming up over the next few days to celebrate this 58th year of my life, the highlight being the statutary birthday dinner at Marque IV (on Good Friday night). This tradition began many years ago at Gondwana, and has followed and continued with Sir Paul (Foreman) down to MIV. I really look forward to an evening of predictable indulgence there.
So - in the word-ology of my blogging mate, smurf, it's Rita's birthday, everybody be excited and celebrate!

Have a lovely birthday Rita, sink a few for us!
Good onya Rita,
Have a theakston's for me,
Cheers, Sir Grumpy
Happy Birthday Mum. Glad you liked the tomatoes; plenty more where they came from ;)
The Delicious subscription is half the present: the remainder is under construction as we speak.
Gobbler and Sir Grumps, Rita has a particularly unsophisticated palate and does not generally indulge in alcoholic beverages (!!) unless it's sweet as buggery (only botrytis-affected wine or Baileys, eerghhh).
Happy Birthday Rita.
Well good on her Nellie. One's palate is one's palate and needs a good tickle on one's birfday.
Glad you are into the tomatoes too. Me and the missus just made our very first batch of tomato sauce.
Got a load of cosmetically challenged but tasty toms from our wood man's mum.
We cleaned them up and just sweated them down in olive oil with some salt, pepper and a tiny amount of chilli powder and marjoram. (Didn't have no Basil).
After a slow cook they were sweet and delicious and we whizzed them up, skins and all and bottled them. (Only a few bottles).
It was great over pasta with some very ordinary ready-grated cheddar. (well quick is good sometimes).
Cheers, Sir Grump but Fair.
have a lovely day and night Rita. Happy birthday xxx

Thanks all for the birthday wishes.
Nellie, you might like to know that I had a glass of Veuve Cliquot which does not come under the heading of either botrytis-affected or Baileys, yesterday with lunch. It was a supreme sacrifice to swallow it, I assure you.
Great to hear from Kitty too. Hope the new kitchen's shaping up OK for you.
Sir Grumpy - the tomato sauce sounds gorgeous. I love homemade tomato sauce under grilled cheese on toast for a snack lunch. You can't beat it, I reckon.
