Dom's Asian Teahouse in Blackmans Bay

OK - three words to describe tonights meal at Dom's....

YUM YUM AND BLOODY YUM! Alright - so I lied. It was five words! So sue me!

I had Udang Nanas Lemak (Prawn curry with tomato & pineapple) $17.50
and Nasi Goreng (Spicy fried rice and prawn) $13.50

and finished with Banana Fritters (can't remember the price of them).

All hail Sir Grumpy. Dom's rules.

I love you Dom. As they say in France - je reviens. (I will return)

Good afternoon.Caught up now with your prolific blogging.
I thought the food at Mr Nellie's birthday was fabulous. Two things stood out for me - first, the taramasalata. It's been a long time since I've had such authentic stuff - no-one bothers anymore to source the cods roe and do it properly, so to find it prepared so well was FABULOUS. there used to be a continental deli opposite the hospital in Argyle St that sold the tarama, but I haven't seen it about except at Prahan market for a long time.
Second, the spinach pie got really close to authentic - the one's made en famille have diverged a bit over time - the mother-in-law version uses a short pastry and is more "set" - Mr Bok uses lavish amount of cheese, but the texture remains looser inside his filo. The one at the party had a lovely scraggy leaf feel, and the sesame seeds on top were actually a nice touch. Certainly had to loosen the top trouser button on the winding road back down the mountain.

re Lenna. One of the reasons I didn't make comment on your original post about GP's comments was because I actually agreed with him too - again except for the more personal stuff but that too I think had some elements to take on board.
We went there on a balmy January night and sat on that lovely old tesselated verandah. It was our wedding anniversary, so we wanted something a bit spesh. Didn't deliver although on paper it looked fab. I can't remember the good bits, but I'm sure there were some - but I do remember the many mistakes that continually detracted from the experience. We were pleasantly surprised when we went there for a private function last month and had a meal that completely delivered what it promised - I think the simplified choices (three entree, three main) made it easier for the kitchen. Overall the experience showed th perils of overcomplicating a menu, both in terms of choice and preparation.
Went to the Boathouse last night for the annual duck dinner (there have been 7 or 8 - I've been to five) Standout was the dessert - I'm not a great fan of duck egg, but here it was used in a lemon curd that was yum scrum. They have a southern rock lobster (oh, buggar pc terminology) dinner coming out that could be good, and I want to get back to try their new menu sometime.

Had a lingering lunch at the Republic this week too, but it was the gas fire (retrofitted into the old open jetmaster) and the wine that kept us there, the food was really ordinary and pricey for what it was.

Never been to the new Dom's but was a longtime fan of old Dom's - like his blog too.
Anyway, nice chatting, looking forward to your next installments.

Hey Blogger Police - I know you're on to me. I've already made the appointment with my lawyer on Monday in anticipation!

Kitty - great to hear all you had to say. Lenna - yes, a great disappointment. Boathouse Cray Dinner - sounds like my cuppa. I'm anticipating getting to that one.
Republic - well, different things are right for different times. The wine and warmth were obviously convenient for you on the day. Bad luck about the food.
Get yourself down to Dom's one evening though. Make sure you book. By the time the ladies from the Kingston Tennis Club had arrived last night, and taken up 2 large long tables predominating the restaurant, there wasn't much left over for the rest of us! We thanked our lucky stars we'd arrived & placed our order before the ladies. But the menu is varied (Malaysian, Thai & Chinese), and the food flavoursome and good value for money.

Try the new Chinese in Sandy Bay near Woolies - Shanghai on Bund. BF and I went there last Saturday and OH WOW! Very VERY good.

Hi Tassie Gal - thanks for that. I WILL try it. Hopefully this weekend as I have no kitchen currently.
Thanks for the hot tip! I am quite curious now.
