Driving along Waterloo Crescent, Battery Point the other day, I glanced at Mummys Cafe, and saw to my huge surprise, that not only had it been repainted, but has undergone a name change.
Mummys is now '1815'. The name comes from the fact that it is, in fact, situated in Waterloo Crescent, and 1815 is the year of the Battle of Waterloo, hence the name 1815.
It has a new owner, and Managers - a husband and wife team with her doing FOH and him being the chef. They intend doing cafe style with a hint of French.
I hope it goes well for them, but it IS a tad sad for me to see a few old traditions go. That cafe holds many close and fond memories for me in particular.
So, goodbye Mummys. I'll pop in soon and eat there. See how you stack up these days against the competition round that area.

That's sad Rita. I always liked Mummy's, Let's hope the new owners and set-up find resounding success.
I wonder why they felt they had to ditch the moniker. I always thought Mummy's should be preserved.
Pharoah nuff,
Sir Grumpy
