A few assorted things for today:
***Christina, one of our regular commenters on the blogs here, is off to Melbourne for a week with her lovely husband Phil. She wants any recommendations regarding restaurants which people feel she and Phil should go and eat at during this trip. They leave on the 30th April. Gobbler - I know for sure you're an expert on places she really SHOULD go to, so come on! Give us a clue or two. I myself would also like a few restaurant names for a time later this year that I'll be in Melb for work and want to capitalise on the trip.
***We have decided on a date for our next bloggers dinner, which will be at Monty's. It will be held on Thursday 24th April. If you want to come along and eat with Christina and I, please email me direct on the Email Rita facility on the right hand side of this blogsite, and can you please provide me with a phone number I can contact you on to finalise numbers prior to the evening?
***On the Rita's Bite website now, we have added a facility that means you can now comment directly onto the website about a restaurant experience you've had at any of the restaurants on my website. Previously you would have had to add the comment to the blogsite review, but now you can just go straight onto the website and add a comment - which would really help anyone going there to get any info.
***Also Luke from Pecora has added some restaurant items to the website on the Noticeboard page, which he'd like to sell. Please feel free to call Luke on his mobile number (provided) if you're interested in buying any of his stuff.

It all depends on budget but I'd try these:
Movida at the bar. You can't book and lunchtimes are easier to get a place.
Lau's Family kitchen. basically the Flower Drum casual - sensational fresh and simple Chinese in a relaxed setting.
Jamon Sushi in South Yarra.Tiny and very good.
Rockpool. If you don't want the full expensive expierence at least try the burger. The fish and shellfish is as god as you'll find in Australia. Bistro Guillaume next door is beautiful and produces excellent french classics but the wine is exe. Nobu is also good and an experience but as I said it depends on budget. Up the prom Guiseppe, Arnaldo & Sons has it's locally made salumi and wel priced wines by the carafe. You can't book and you can drop in for a nibble or a full meal.
Longrain does some interesting variations on Thai but the tables are too wide and the noise is frustrating.
Taxi at Fed Sq is always good with a view of that brown trickle known as the yarra.
For pizza Ladro on Getrude St is still tops. Up the street there is Books for Cooks, the Enoteca which is nice for a glass of wine and Anada - a new god value tapas place.
Back in St Kilda I always enjoy Di Stasi and the Melbourne Wine Room. I could go on...
Hey Ed,
Thanks for those tips. I think I've visited your blog. The burger at Rockpool is a definite on my list after reading your review. Movida is up there too, if we can get in. I read in delicious magazine about Anada so will probably check that out too.
Your recommendations are greatly appreciated.
Ditto from me too Ed. Thanks for those recommendations. For me, it really helps when you know you've got limited time, and want a great dining experience, to now be able to go straight to the heart of the matter, instead of my usual hit or miss Melbourne dining experiences which to date haven't proved memorable at all.
My usual problem is that I never know how long my work appointments in Melb will last, then how much time I'll have left to squeeze in a meal (not booked), or how long it'll take me to reach a recommended venue, not knowing Melb geography or traffic at all.
Nice work Ed. I concur with all of them esp Movida. Rita & Christina I am quite out of the Melb loop but drawing on memory I can suggest:
*For a smart but casual meal with good food & service not costing the earth- Ciccialina in St Kilda
*For a big night out to splash the cash, feel looked after & get bangs for your buck-Rockpool, Circa, the Prince, upstairs at the Stokehouse, Botanical, Press Club.
*A Melbourne retro experience-The Bistrot at Florentino, Pellegrinis, the European
*Chinese with atomosphere-the supper Inn City after 12pm
*Pizza-i carusi in east Brunswick
*Coffee-Ray in Brunswick
*Brekkie-Tin pot cafe in Nth Fitzroy
*Bread-dench bakers in Nth Fitzroy
*Queen Victoria market
Mine come from a particularly nth of the yarra viewpoint!
Thanks Gobbler for the hot tips.
Rita, I feel like a bit of a stalker, but I've just left comments on all the restaurants that I've visited, on your web site. I think thats a fantastic idea. You can see at a glance what others perspectives are. I hope more people conribute to this.
This is what happens on a not so warm Saturday afternoon while I wait for my guiness stew to be ready and Hubby peels the spuds for the colcannon. Mmmmm Heaven!!
Again, double those sentiments of Christina's from me Gobbler.
Christina - I see what you mean with the comments - but it's great. I love the thought that people are getting more of a perspective than just mine. And often when we've started talking on the blog review about a specific restaurant, we go off on a totally different tangent, and end up debating something else, so the comments don't necessarily reflect our feelings about the food at the restaurant.
Where's my invitation to dinner tonight? It does indeed sound yummilicious!
Hi Rita,
Dont know if I provided you with the link to my food blog site or not....its quite small and currently life is meaning I cant post there when I go out as often as I would like to, BUT it is there, and wanting someone to read it!
Why read when you dont post tassiegal?
Bugger - was really looking forward to attending the next blogger's dinner and to put faces to the names - unfortunately, for those of us working in restaurants, the evening before a public holiday is not a good night to take off. Never mind - maybe next time. It's hard to please everyone, but would you consider a Sunday or Monday evening when many hospitality workers are off?
Anon 4.53 - we'd be happy to change the night we're eating at Monty's.
Which night would you prefer? How about Monday 21st April?
Monday works better for me too! Thursdays would have been massive rush.
Happy to help. Good additions Gobbler. I think I have to do something with a domain I registered foodbloggersguide.com giving a guide to eating in varius cities. I notice a lot of Americans when they come over think we all eat bush food and roo but somebody needs to explain the joys of lamb, how good our beef is, why wild barra is better than farmed, yabbies vs prawns, and why koala is the best thing they'll ever eat.
Monty's isnt open on Mondays... unless you have a big booking so it would be special service and not the same atmosphere as if you were to go there on a regular night...
It's always difficult to please everyone when it comes to dates. Maybe you might consider arranging the dinner after Monty's on a Monday evening. Appreciate your offer to change to the 21st, but I agree with anonymous above - wouldn't be quite the same as a regular night. Hope you all have fun, look forward to your report.
