Menulog Restaurant Guide for Zaika(added 2-1-2007)

Me and the missus tried Zaika on Saturday, Rita.
It was in the phantom zone betwixt lunch and dinner.
The guys were friendly and smiling. We were in a hungry-rush so just went baine marie.
I had beef vindaloo, her ladyship lamb rogan.
There was a nice naan sitting there and the missus, being starving asked for that.
To his credit, the serving chappie said it had been in there a little while and would we like a fresh one.
A good sign that. we said yes.
So we had our main and the fresh cooked naan was brought out when we were about halfway through.
A bottle of chilled water was taken to our table as soon as we ordered, didn’t even have to ask.
My vindaloo was hot but not so hot I couldn’t finish...beef tender, sauce nice.
Rogan was tender lamb and medium sauce.
We bought a samosa to have later and it was nice too.
I think we were about $21 dollars for our sit down meal (we both had a large serving).
Very friendly, very nice...we took takeaway menus and I think we’ll be back to order a la carte.
So there you are then...
Noticed a new-ish Indian restaurant today. It’s called Zaika Indian Cuisine, and it’s on the site of the old Dolphin Fish Shop in the main block of Sandy Bay on Sandy Bay Road. Has anyone been there?
Zaika is now 'Dolphin Indian Restaurant' and the food is easily the best Indian in Hobart. The chef is from Kerala, trained at a 5 star hotel, no more baine marie, the best pea & potato somosa I have ever had by a bollywood mile.
Thanks Stack, for that info. I noticed the other day in passing that Zaika had a new name (and presumably new owners). I smiled wryly to myself as I read the new name of Dolphin Indian Restaurant, remembering it in its precious incarnation 50-odd years ago as the Dolphin fish and chip shop where my first boyfriend took me after our first 'date' bowling at the Moonah Bowl!
