Enough Rope, Channel 2, 9.30 pm

There's no disputing the fact that Andrew Denton does a bloody good interview. He has a refreshing style, and the questions he asks of his 'captives' elicit some great responses which give you as honest a glimpse into the persons life as it is possible to get.

The subject for the first episode of this year's Enough Rope this coming Monday night is none other than Gordon Ramsey. I reckon Andrew should be able to provide us with the definitive Mr Ramsey, so if you've got a spare hour, check it out.

I'm _uckin looking forward to this too Rita.
I used to abhor the guy and once famously vowed that even if I was given a free meal at one of his restaurants, I wouldn't go.
I'm such a bull shitter. Even as I said it I knew I was full of it.
Tis was after watching him be so awful to his staff and customers, then full on abuse a food critic.
I must say the F word changed my mind about the guy a lot. Then Kitchen Nightmares
What ever else he has, he makes up for with his full on passion for food.

The funny thing is I don't think Ramsay is that bad to his staff. If you put it into an industry context, I have worked under many who were worse in their staff treatment (some good chefs and others obviously very bad) but I think it hardened me up and made me realise this approach was not the best in my dealings with staff.

The (critical) viewer also forgets that put a peron in front of a camera and their persona and traits are hightened, not to mention the editing suite.

Have just eaten at Plane Food (LHR, T5)...Staff that I asked all said that it was a great place to work (but in the immortal words of Mandy Rice-Davies, "...they would say that wouldn't they"!) They also said that Chef Ramsay is nothing like his TV persona. (Already knew this so not sure why I asked!)
The restaurant is stunning visually...fab space & you get to watch a jet take off every 30 secs! Only had a Caesar which was ok-ish (no bite) but a bottle of water cost me 3.65GBP (about $7.50) and that's expensive in any #*!?# language!

Hey Big Boy, Yeah You. Nice if Denton gave it a bit of that.
But on a different point. Is anyone watching boiling point. I got the staff on to it. Last week each and everyone of them whistled in on Wednesday wanting to talk about the big man and his staff using their own saliva and a T-towel to polish the plates of the Mitchy inspectors meal.

What happens when you expose your life to the cameras.

Yes Cartouche, saw that spittle wipe and groaned.
By the way, Rita, I can't stand Denton. That stupid grin of his makes me foam at the mouth.
I think he's bloody hopeless and 99 per cent of the guest he has I wouldn't give a flying fuck about.
Why spend any time in his company...I just can't.

I think Gordon is GAY GAY GAY!

I too can't stand Denton. I think his questions are often designed to make him seem clever and empathetic but in essence are not very interesting at all. Maybe it's just not my thing, so I don't watch his show. What I can't understand is sir grumpys' intensity. Are you alright? Why are you so annoyed and full of bile for people who don't have to affect you? Perhaps a little more love for yourself and less admiration for your own opinion would make you happier. Get well soon.

Yes sir grumpy! Calm down you f.....g sour old bastard. Talk about shit on the liver..

I think Denton is one of the most skilled interviewers I have ever encountered. I have twice been an audience member on Enough Rope and have admired the professional workings of him and his organisation-Another Zapruder Film-behind the scenes. I know a lot of people don't like his style and I certainly didn't warm to him personally. I still think he is one of the best around in his field and certainly no one elso comes close in this country.....
and , Yes, Sir grump, keep a handle on things!!!

Anonymous said...

Jeez, so you can say what you like but I can't eh? Like that's going to happen you anonymous bastards!
Like Rita and Gobbler have said and others too, it's hard to get inflection over via the cold-hard-light of a printed response.
I've never understood shit on the liver thingo and Zapruder Film sounds like pretentious tosh.
Those who abuse me think that's okay for them. Talk about hypocrits.
Look, I don't like Denton and I AM ENTITLED to that, MY OPINION, it's is the only one I have. You can have yours, I won't stop you.
Everything effects everything. If Denton fucked off maybe there'd be something worth watching. Talking heads shit bores me rigid, especially this amateur hour crap.

I have no problems with anyone having strong opinions - I am certainly among them. I do get a bit annoyed at times with the way some people express their opinions - especially when they're totally AND repetitively negative and crudely expressed (like that anonymous 10:35 individual). So I then exercise my right also to voice my irration. OK? We then all get our say -sometimes touching some people's sensitivities, no doubt!
No ongoing offence taken in my case- I suspect neither with you, judging from previous exchanges. Let there be love unbounded!
Cheers!!

Love unbounded, bloody love unbounded. Now you're trying to get my opinion on gushy Geraldine Doogue.
How very dare you.

Anonymous said...

How very very dare you!! Then again, am I bovered? Am I? Am I? No! No! AM I bovered??
Love and kisses
Geraldine

Gordon IS gay gay gay!

I'll stay out of the above debate, but I LOVE Catherine Tate, so appreciate the "How very dare you" comment Sir G! What a fucking liberty!

PS - after writing this reminder blog post for everyone, guess who went to sleep at the start of the Gordon Ramsay interview?
What a fucking dickhead!

Anonymous said...

You only thought you were asleep, Rita...you watched it, really. Same thing.

No-one is saying that you can't say what you want. In fact I agreed with you about Andrew Denton, and I too, think his production companies' name is wanky and pretentious. I was just saying that you seem to get off on being base and crude in your opinions. Also, this slighting of peoples' use of the anonymous tag is ridiculous. If your parents named you sir grumpy then I apologise, if not then you are the hypocrite.

I have plenty of good to say. But in search of the good, one often has to point out the bad or shonky, old thing.
Go around with rose-tinted glasses if you wish, far be it for me to demur. The anonymous thing was an attempted joke (failed obviously...you have to find out about your audience).
SIGH...I used the term hypocrite as a throw-away, be not offended for it was not intended that way.
I thought base and crude were Melbourne rappers, but there you go.
Now, for fuck's sake, lighten up.
If we all make the same noises there isn't any point in reading blogs. At least no sport and little entertainment.

Grumpy, pumpy,
puddings and lies,
took to task,
and had a cry.
When the truth came out to play,
"jokes" and "noises" saved the day.

Rita said...

Sir G - pay no heed.

I agree, Ramsey is a fucking dickhead

Anyone for a puffin?

Has Andrew Denton ever interviewed Hugh Grant. Now there's a thought.

One of the most entertaining interviews I've EVER encoutered was Denton and Richard E Grant.
