High-class porridge
I am a convert to porridge, as long as it’s made with Elgaar Grains rolled oats. The organic Elgaar farm near Deloraine, best known for dairy products, also harvests about 80 tonnes of oats a year. The special huskless variety does not need to be dehulled, which can damage the kernel and germ. Then the oats go through a special roller that gently flattens them without heat or friction, giving a silky smooth grain with a really creamy feel, even when cooked in just water.
Elgaar oats are available at almost 30 outlets in and around Hobart, including Hill Street, where they cost $4.45 for 750g, and where they are used in the organic muesli mixed at the shop.
