Finally visited Olive yesterday. Since I first checked this place out a little has changed. Where previously the menu showed various tapas style items, that could be had with a glass or two, now it seems more like breakfast {weekends only}, lunch and dinner. Four of us went for lunch yesterday and enjoyed it very much. I chose duck confit salad with pine nuts, gorgonzola, pancetta and rocket, $21. It was absolutely wonderful and although the gorgonzola was delicious there was a little too much and nearly overpowered the dish. Luckily Mum was there to share the load with the cheese. Mum chose Salmon Caesar Salad, $17, and declared it wonderful, she even let me have one of her toasted bread slices to spread my excess cheese on. Jen had roasted pumpkin, spinach and buffalo mozzarela tart and while not my idea of a true tart, she loved it,$19. To me it was a pastry case filled with exactly what is described, no yummy eggy, creamy, tarty stuff, which I love. Judy had Thai Fish Cakes with a Chilli Coconut Sauce, $17. She loved them, but I'm not a eat out, fish cake person. They always seem too rubbery too me, as was the case here. Some things are just better done your own way. All in all we had a lovely meal and I will definately be returning, hopefully for their dinner menu which is slightly more extensive. I don't think any one would be disappointed here. For a Thursday lunch time the place was quite nicely full too. Friends at the next table had bruschetta, pork, and pasta and declared it wonderful also.

Returned to Olive for dinner last week and it was pretty darn good.
Five ladies present, we shared a Margherita pizza with olives as a starter. Great pizza. So great in fact, Trace ordered one to take home for dinner the next night.
Three of us had Pork Fillet on crushed garlic potatoes for mains. Absolutely wonderful. Sue had Fettucine Carbonara and declared it delicious. I tasted the sauce and it was!
Trace had Gnocchi of potato and roast pumpkin which she enjoyed immensely.
As it was Deb's birthday we shouted her dessert and she chose a Crepe Suzette style plate. Of course we all sampled it and I found it amazing. Done with lemon instead of orange.
A really great little place and I must add the service is fantastic.
Quite busy for a Wednesday night.
Highly recommended.

We ate at Olive yesterday for Melbourne Cup lunch. Set menu cost $35. Shared mezze plates to start with, then choice of chicken caesar, roasted vegetable stack or veal scallopini for main. Dessert was either lemon meringue or cream brulee. Four of us ordered the caesar. The menu said it was with grilled chicken, baby cos lettuce, crispy pancetta, parmesan cheese, coddled egg, croutond, anchovies and home made caesar dressing. I ordered it thinking they couldnt stuff it up, but they did. The anchovy looked like a long grey slug. It might have been pickled and it might have been anchovy but not sure. Pancetta was not crisp. Croutons weren't croutons but 2 thin ovenhardened slices of bread placed on the top of the salad. The coddled egg was cold, from the fridge maybe? The dressing was awful. I couldn't cut the grilled chicken so ate it with my fingers. Two of us had tummy problems later. Meringue on lemon meringue pie wasn't cooked. We'll never go there again.

Are they reopening? Or shut down completely? What's happening with the staff?

Hi Anon 1.02 - I don't know what has happened to the staff. The restaurant was in the For Sales in, I think, last week's Real Estate Guide, so I'd assume it was definitely closed down.

Wasn't the old chef ex Moorilla and Astor?
