what do you think of MIV not making the top 10 restaurants in tassie?

"what do you think of MIV not making the top 10 restaurants in tassie?"

Hmm.

considering they were in the top 100 last year it seems a big fall. maybe its because paul left? But curiously moorilla made it into the guide(not in the top 100 though)& paul & justin moved within weeks of each other so you'd have to say that perhaps Marque iv wasn't up to scratch?

interestingly, the only two rest that get a star are lebrina( in the top 100 BTW) & angasi. rog & sue who do the reviewing for gt in tas have a website called food tourist. their top 5 tas rest are lebrina, stillwater, piccalilly, mud & angasi.
why does angasi merit a star when there are 3 restaurants reviewed by rog & sue on their own site that score higher than angasi dont get a star in the current gt guide?
just curious.

just checked the site and no mention of monty's, henry's or 373?? Don't know how meadowbank can be a top 5 restaurant when they only serve they're own wine, don't do spirits, only have 2 types of beer, have about 8 things to chose from and 3 desserts, that doesn't say much for what they think of tassie restaurants
and MIV wasn't top 100 last year but the 2 b4 that

MIV didn't even get reviewed!!!!!!!!

That is piss poor, time for some new judges

My friends saw Tetsuya at Moorilla this morning, when they stopped off on the way to the airport to buy some wine before heading back to W.A.. FYI Tetsuya was also buying wine.

MIV was not rated as it was on the cusp of change. The judges / editors don't usually review a restaurant that is having big changes. There was also the strong suggestion that it was shutting down and till that was cleared up it is easy to understand why it was not rated. Bad timing I guess

What about Fee and Me, they announced they would be closing down before Foreman left MIV, yet they are still in the guide. What is with that, this is 2010 guide and this restaurant is no more. Mainlanders will be coming down to dine at restaurants and go to Fee and Me and say WTF. Bloody slack, get new state judges.

Very true

But also Moorilla was going through the same changes yet they are in the guide

unfortunately tasmanian restaurants when tossed in with the wider field don't really quite offer the same in many areas. it's a fact, and for time being it doesn't really matter about rankings, awards and the like, that will come when the quality is there. everyone should stop moaning, it will happen, but it ain't there yet.

Anonymous said...

Not moaning last anaon but pointing out some descrepencies in the award rankings. Yes we have a way to go before more of Tas places are represented but its not unreasonable to call into question the methodology that these reviwers use to deem who's in & who's not

Anonymous said...

i hear what you're saying, but i think you'll find that the methodology is simply the meal had on the visits to the restaurants at that given time. it's same world wide and it points to one thing, inconsistency and that is a big point that separates tasmanian establishments from other mainland or international ones. i think you'll find a few other reviewers have been working along side the regular contributors and you'd also be interested to hear what they had to say......

I went to a restaurant called Risby Cove in Strahan which should definately get reviewed. I was shocked to find such good food on the sleepy west coast of Tassie. but then again when Meyjitte Boughenout was at Franklin Manor it was fabulous, his degustation menu was to die for.

Must say I was surprised that Monty's didnt get a mention. However I'm VERY happy Pigeon Hole did in the cafe section...though I am not sure if ranking a cafe solely on their panini and mentioning the beans and eggs cocete as an afterthought is that adviseable.
As for the the others, Me Wah at Sandy Bay, but not Launceston - interesting. I'd love to know the logic and criteria.

Rita - now it is public. So it may become true. Let's hope so. Fantastic coupe for Moorilla, and a great combination. http://www.themercury.com.au/article/2009/08/30/94151_tasmania-news.html
