In the Sunday Tasmanian of 13 Jul 2008 Graeme Phillips announced Fish Frenzy as the winner of his competition for the title of Hobart’s best takeaway fish and chips cafe/restaurant.
Graeme listed the following reasons for Fish Frenzy’s win:
Their fish is always fresh. If any of their selection of varieties is unavailable fresh, then it’s off the menu.
The colour of the crumb and batter coatings, their crispness and lack of residual oiliness and the absence of any stale or burnt oil smell to the place indicate that they use good oil, cook at the right temperature and change the oil regularly. When asked, the manager said the oil was changed daily.
The crumb and tempura and beer batters adhered nicely to the fish, rather than separating to have the fish slip out like something from an envelope, leaving you to eat its coating separately.
They use Tasmanian produce wherever possible.
Their attractive brown-paper cone packaging and the fact that a lemon wedge is supplied, even with a small order of chips.
It’s great but I find it a little expensive. You do get what you pay for though. It’s always fresh and hot.
